Noticed the oil pressure light came on when I turned a corner. Immediately took it to dealer, where I have all scheduled maintenance done (except once). Car was found to have no oil in it before scheduled maintenance. This happened 6 months previously and was thought to be a pvc plug issue. Was told it was due to a known issue with excessive oil consumption due to worn piston rings, ultimately the fault of the requirement of ethanol in gasoline. Solution - keep checking the oil and add as needed. Not worth repairing the piston rings.

Recall 287614- my call was involved in an accident on 1/10/2019. My car ran a red light due to failure of brakes and struck another vehicle. Both cars were totaled. I have received a notification in the mail in 4/2019 3 months after my accident I have contacted Toyota and since they are unable to locate my vehicle to inspect it, they refused to help compensate for my loss. I would like Toyota to take some responsibility for this, my insurance company gave me a payout that went directly towards the remaining balance of my car and I still have to pay 2,900 after. I still have not financially recovered from this accident. They have tried to relocate my car for inspection but the insurance company who has possession of my car after the accident, no longer has it. I have not fully recovered from this accidently finically and I was looking to have Toyota to help me compensate me for my loss. The money I did get from the insurance company went towards the remaining balance of my loan and I was not able to use it towards another vehicle. Recall ID287614 NHTSA campaign #18E091000 my vehicle was involved in an accident on Jan 10th, due to failure of brakes. My car ran a red light and hit another car. My car has been totaled in this accident. I have since contacted Toyota about my accident and they have refused to help compensate for my loss. My car was towed to the insurance company and is no longer accessible for inspection. I would like for Toyota to take some responsibility for this accident. I have not fully recovered from losing my vehicle financially and I do believe 100% that this recall was the cause of the accident. The contact owns a 2012 Scion Xb. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated, the steering wheel was tight, and smoke emitted from the rear of the vehicle. The contact was able to exit the vehicle without injury. The vehicle erupted into flames and the contact was able to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher. A police report was not filed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and indicated that they would send an inspector; however, no one was sent for a year. The insurance company had a fire inspector who diagnosed that the number one cylinder rod fractured and caused a hole for oil to leak out of, which led to the fire. The fire caused catastrophic failure to the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.
