I suspect the left vent cover operating cable or gear has broken. This is something that I would normally not expect in any 4 yr old car. However, I've come to disrespect Subaru's design and material selection of plastic parts.

I had a similar problem on a 1999 Ford Focus. It was 15 years old when it happened, hummm. However the biggest difference is the replacement cost. The Subaru part costs $350. The Focus was less than a 1/3 of that. Because I did the work myself one should double or triple the part cost if a dealer does it.

While this Crosstrek has many good attributes this issue is a real game changer for me.

Update from Sep 9, 2020: Update Condenser leaks. They want $1800 dollars to replace a $350 (their price) to fix it. Don't think I'll ever buy a Subaru again if this is the quality of their cars. Mechanic says this is a common problem with this car. Makes one wonder how Subaru decides what to recall or just say screw you customer. You shouldn't have bought this car.
