This car is 9 years old with approximately 4 thousand miles per year on it that has had all maintenence done faithfully. It has been garaged always. We are having to pay a large repair bill that is due to not putting enough miles on the car and as the shop said this is a common issue from moist states. I cant find anything in the owners manual that says the car should be started regularly to avoid corrosion in the air intakes.

piston ring failure

Was driving on the freeway, engine light started flashing and black smoke out the tail pipe, just pulled on to the shoulder when the car stalled, thank God family was not with me, I thought that it ran out of oil, in a sense it did, all the oil went out the tail pipe and smoked the engine, costs more to fix than car is worth, very nice car going to the scrap yard. Over 6,000 to replace engine. After researching it, it is an all too common problem that is catastrophic to the engine. Subaru lost a class action suite, unfortunately ours was too old for any recourse. Buying a honda.
