This car rattles every time am on uneven roads despite fixing my suspension with genuine parts. My dealer says it is the electric steering rack which is the issue. He says all Foresters with this type (electric) of steering system develop the problem at between 85,000 and 100,000 kilometers and the only solution is to replace the steering rack which will then do another 90,000 kms and go to the same problem (since when did steering racks become consumables on cars?). This car is not stable at cruising speeds either. You have to keep adjusting the steering wheel to keep it on straight line which is very uncomfortable, tiring and annoying on long distances. What has Subaru done to rectify this very very annoying problem? Is there a solution other than replacing the steering rack? Are the replacement steering racks improved to counter this problem? What is the cost of a new steering rack?
