Rear differential grinding in rear. Rear differential was shot. When I bought it the car had a drive system which is selectable between:
- Front Wheel drive for normal dry pavement.
- All Wheel drive: used in light snow and rain.
- Locked 4 Wheel drive: used in heavy snow and mud only.
When I bought the car I also purchased a third party extended warranty, which paid for all but $100.00 of the repair cost. The problem is that they would not replace with a new or rebuilt part. Instead, they insisted on a supposedly fully tested used rear differential. The replacement part would not "lock" in four wheel drive. The dealer diagnosed the replacement part as faulty. The warranty company refused to replace the faulty replacement and claimed that the car was substantially repaired. No amount of complaining or letter writing would change their mind.
