I bought this vehicle as new on 9/26/2020 with around 4200 miles on it as a demo.

At around 7000 mile the oil light went on and I called the dealer and stopped by. Dealer topped off oil, told me about VW engines which he said is normal to burn oil. I said interesting and he sent me on my way with no documentation of this. Now I say to myself, did this happen as well prior to me taking possession of the car at 4000 miles? I guess we will never know so I have to stick with the facts. He said after my first oil change we will run an oil consumption test after driving 1000 mies.

I went back and did the test which documented .73 QTS burned over 1400 miles of driving.

They told me that is normal, I said they are NUTS, then they gave me their stories that all the service managers and techs have VW and all of them always add oil. I said really as I previously owned 4 VW and never had an oil issue

Actually the issue started in Nov when the oil light came on and the dealer just topped off the oil and didn't record any documentation that was around 7000 miles. Then 1000 miles after the first oil change an oil consumption test was done.

Please read the letter I sent to service manager below

Hi Jason, As you know I have previously owned many VW’s throughout the years and never had any major issues. I am writing you today concerning my engine consuming oil. At around 7000 miles the oil light came on I called and spoke to Greg and he said to bring it in, and he looked at it and oil was low so he topped it off. Greg also said that its normal for VW engines to burn oil and I should ride around with oil and every week top it off. Greg also said after we do your first oil change that I should bring it back around 1000 miles after and World VW will perform an oil consumption test We did that test yesterday 2/11/2021 Dylan being the service manager, and the results were that after driving 1400 miles since the first oil change the car consumed .73 qts and he said that’s normal. I did some quick math and based on that info determined that between every oil change the car will burn 5.2 QTS of oil and Dylan said that is correct according to VW. I said that is absurd and Dylan gave me the 800 VW cust service # to call which I did and got absolutely nowhere. So I called Dylan back and he couldn’t believe that, so he said he was going to call them for me and he was sure that I would get some better service. Never received call. Today I tried VW cust srv again thru instant message and basically was told they were not the experts, maybe that’s why the engines burn oil? Maybe the engineers who designed the engine weren’t experts as well. VW cust service is telling me that you at World VW have to deem this excessive. Very interesting as you have this document created by VW saying that this is normal. I asked to get an impartial expert mechanic and get their opinion and was told no can do. If you tell this to anyone they will agree that this is ridiculous and VW is trying to cover themselves. I never experienced this with any other VW engine I had, maybe I was lucky ? This obviously is a challenged engine which VW needs to stand behind. Would you buy a car if someone told you that it will burn ½ Qt oil every 600 miles? You don’t have to answer that because I know your answer and don’t want to hear the VW answer as of course you drink the VW Kool Aid.

Thanks, Peter Liberman

Update from Feb 14, 2021: I was furious and went back to the dealer asking to speak to a supervisor and was given a VW 800 # to call and they told me that they are not experts and I said now I can see why since your vehicles burn oil. Makes sense, so routed me back to the dealer saying that they are the experts so I called the dealer and he couldn't believe that that was the response I was given by VW, and said he was going to call on my behalf and hell call me back.

Never happened.
