I had my clock spring replaced last year due to the recall, then had my air bag replaced a month ago. The recall for the clock spring stated that the airbag replacement may cause the clock spring to fail. But since I had the clock spring replaced before the airbag I am apparently not subject to have any failure since it was a new part. Well guess what happened my clock spring sure enough failed 1 month after the air bag was replaced. I guess VW did a great job mitigating that disaster.

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Cc. While driving various speeds, the horn was inoperable as well as the other function buttons on the steering wheel. The contact took the vehicle to fred beans Volkswagen (315 w lancaster ave, devon, pa 19333 (610) 687-0700) where it was diagnosed with a fractured clock spring that needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was serviced in January per NHTSA campaign number: 15V483000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified and confirmed that the vehicle was serviced per a clock spring recall. No further assistance was offered. The contact stated that she did not recall receiving a recall notification for the clock spring. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000. Updated 7/31/18

Steering column lock defective - message is displayed after starting the car, then the car immediately shuts off. Mechanic checked for fault codes and sees 02823 requirements for locking steering column not met, and 02861 electronic steering column lock check sum error. There has been a recall of other 2010 VW Ccs over this issue, but it does not include my VIN number. The symptoms of the issue seem to be exactly the same. This was happening intermittently earlier in the year, but now it happens nearly every time I start the car in the morning.

Clock spring recall recently my airbag light went on and when I make a turn with a steering wheel rotation of over 270* my horn will go off, I also only have intermittent use of the steering wheel controls to my instrumentation. There is a recall on the year and make of my car for the clock spring, however my VIN is not included. The signs point to a defective clock spring to which I lost the functionality of my airbag and the electronic functionality of my steering wheel. I called VW service department and they said my vehicle is not covered under the recall so there is no need to bring it in. I really don't feel safe operating this vehicle considering there has been an open recall involving the takata recall for well over a year. (VW told me that they will contact me when parts are available to fix). This happened when I made a left turn into a parking spot, the airbag light when on and it said "service airbag".

While driving my vehicle, I heard a low pop, the vehicle would not turn and collided with 4 other parked vehicles. Upon inspecting my car after the incident, the right front wheel was completely unhinged from the vehicles steering and suspension system. Vehicle towed to body shop and upon further inspection in the day time, the entire lower and upper control arm had completely failed. The right front axle was ripped from the steering knuckle, a part of the lower control arm where the bushing would be was broken. The entire right front suspension system had basically collapsed, causing me to loose control of the vehicle's steering system. This vehicle is serviced at ourisman Volkswagen of rockville md. They did not notify me that this was an issue. The vehicle did not exhibit signs that there was a potential problem with the suspension system such as vibrations in the front end. There would be an occasional clunk heard when reversing, but was told that was from the engine moving in the subframe and the remedy would be to install subframe bolts.

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Cc. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact had to apply force to the steering wheel in order to steer the vehicle. In addition, the horn and all the buttons on the steering wheel failed to operate. The air bag and steering warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that everything in the steering wheel and the steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that the clock spring was independently replaced. The contact was aware of NHTSA campaign number: 15V483000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Hello, I have a 2010 VW Cc. My airbag light has come on and my horn and steering wheel controls don't work. Volkswagen does have a recall for the "clockspring" which would fix all this but my VIN is not covered under this recall even though some of the same cars and same year are covered. I called them and they said I would have to go get it fixed at a dealership and I would maybe get a refund. Since then my steering wheel light has came on and it is very hard to turn. I can't believe they wouldn't cover this. I would think airbag and horn are huge safety concerns and they already know that this parts fails. When I called Volkswagen customer service they lady could not help me at all other then saying there is another recall for the airbag but they don't have a fix yet so there's nothing they can do. I at least would like my airbag and horn to work, right? also, I asked to speak to a manager twice and both times I was put on a 10 minute hold only for her to come back and say "my manager told me to tell you" both times. No help at all. I truly hate Volkswagen and their customer service. Any help or direction would be much appreciated. Vehicle makes a grinding and creaking sound from steering assembly. When turning steering wheel to left or right, there is a groan, grinding or whirring sound emitting from the steering assembly; there is also the occasional popping sounding from either left or right, depending on direction and angle of steering input. There is also a creaking sound that can be heard from the right / passenger wheel when traveling at low to moderate speeds

Vehicle makes a grinding and creaking sound from steering assembly. I am aware of several other VW/Audi models (A4, Cc, passat, jetta, gti) experiencing the same issue. Volkswagen is aware of this issue and has refused to put out a recall or fix the issue under warranty or good will. As per dealer recommendation, if the issue goes unfixed could result in a fatal accident due to potentially losing complete steering without any warning. Was told by dealership that I need to replace the whole steering assembly. The vehicle is barely 5yrs old and less than 70K miles. I have found several online posts in forums from drivers who have experienced similar if not more catastrophic incidents where they lost complete steering control (found in various VW/Audi forums). When turning steering wheel to left or right, there is a groan, grinding or whirring sound emitting from the steering assembly; there is also the occasional popping sounding from either left or right, depending on direction and angle of steering input. There is also a creaking sound that can be heard from the right / passenger wheel when traveling at low to moderate speeds. Will also experience vibration or noticeable feedback in steering wheel at highway speeds (50mph +) similar to tie-rod end links going bad. Or will feel noticeable feed back while taking a slow corner when wheel is held or turned to left (as in getting on or off an exit ramp). I have filed a complaint with VW but they will not resolve or help contribute to the repairs claiming that vehicle is out of warranty. However, steering systems should not fail in such an early stage of a vehicle's life unless workmanship and quality are sub-par.

When attempting to start the vehicle, placing the key into the ignition, there is a delayed start, or no start condition. A message appears in the vehicle display screen "defective steering column lock". the vehicle is disabled and unable to start. This is an unsafe condition for manual transmission vehicles, if stalling occurs while in an intersection, and the operator is unable to re-start the engine, and the steering wheel locks.

After purchasing vehicle from dealership, I noticed an audible whirring sound coming from the steering system.the vehicle was at a standstill and can be heard when turning wheel to left or right from lock to lock. At first it was a faint whirring sound as if the vehicle was low on power steering fluid. However, the system is electro-mechanical. No hydraulic pumps. The sound has gotten progressively worse and the whirring sound is noticeably more audible. Upon taking it to the VW dealership, service technician says that the entire rack/pinion system has to be replaced because it is defective. Vehicle is less than 40K miles. Service tech says that this is not covered under any warranty. I have found other incidents of this make/model having the same issues, where some systems have completely failed within the first 10K miles. This is a safety issue as there may not be any warning if the system completely fails.

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Cc sport. The contact stated that the steering wheel failed, the steering wheel shook violently and all of the lights on the instrument panel illuminated as the contact attempted to park. The contact was unable to turn or control the steering wheel. The contact shut the engine off momentarily until the steering wheel returned to normal function. The vehicle was taken to the mechanic for inspection however the steering wheel returned to normal function. The dealer performed a diagnostic and was unable to locate a failure code. The dealer advised the contact that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and suggested having a computer update performed. The failure and current mileage was 28,000. ## VIN passed ## volkswage Cc sport ##
