From the Volkswagen recall site re: Steering wheel air bag & clock spring. Summary: Volkswagen group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Volkswagen Cc vehicles. In the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring, a spiral wound, flat cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. This contamination may tear the cable and result in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag. Consequence: A loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag will prevent the air bag from deploying in the event of a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of injury. The local VW dealer says our car is not included however, nothing works on the steering wheel and the air bag warning light in the dash is on. When contacting VW direct I am told NHTSA is responsible for expanding the recall to include our VIN. Questions" is our car safe to drive? if we have a front end collision will the steering wheel air bag work? if NHTSA is aware of 420,000 recalls for this same issue will the recall be expanded to cover other VIN" this is an expensive fix and all logic tells me it should have been included in the original recall.

I'm an active duty service member (army) and my name is [xxx]. I am servicing my vehicle out of the VW store located in columbus ga. My concern is that I don't feel safe driving my vehicle due to a recall. I have recently purchased a vehicle that is under the recall for the takata air bag for the driver side. I have contacted my local dealer that I stated above and spoke with the service manager. He informed me that part to fix my car is not schedule to come in until June 2017. Furthermore, he also made it clear that it was not possible to provide me with a loaner/rental until the parts came in. I then reached out to VW of America (case # [xxx]) and pretty much received the same answer, that they do not have a system in place for providing loaners for this recall. Meanwhile I don't feel safe driving this car day to day given that this issue with this recall has claimed more than ten lives and has injured more than a hundred. Takata recall - recall has been out since Feb 2016 and to date the repair has not been completed. Very concern for the safety of this vehicle as it is driven daily in commuter traffic. As I am unable to trade in vehicle at roseville VW without the dealer charging me $3000 due to the cannot retail the car upon trade in. More over I am concern for the safety of the vehicle and wish not to drive it until repair is fixed.
