the A/C only works when on the highest setting

The A/C did not function correctly within 45 days of purchase (3/2015). I took it to the dealer who charged me a $50 deductible to charge it, saying there was nothing wrong with the system. 3 weeks later it again failed to cool consistently. The dealership refuses to accept any responsibility on behalf of VW. It has progressively grown worse and as this progression has been hand in hand with the diesel scandal, I refuse to spend more money that I will not be reimbursed for in conjunction with the settlement.

My AC went out at the end of the summer 2014. I live in the south and it gets unbearably hot here. It is not safe to drive your children and yourself around in the heat. This is known issue and should be recalled.

A/C does not always work. Seems to be better when I am driving at higher speeds but not always. Thankfully, this wasn't a hot summer, so it wasn't as much of a pain as it could have been. Took it to my local mechanic thinking it might just need freon. No such luck - he said the pressures in the A/C system were not right and that it would probably need a new compressor. He is not a specialist in VWs or Diesels so suggested I take it to a dealer - will do so eventually and post an update on what I find out.

Jetta Sportwagen TDI 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

AC had been working fine. approx in Sep '13, noticed that AC was not blowing cold air until driving for about 5 minutes. Once its starts blowing cold air, it remains good. Dealer took for test drive and said noting was wrong. I know that something has changed. internet research indicates this problem is common and that the culprit is usually a failed Refrigerant Control Valve ($60 part), but that the dealers usually replace the entire AC system for about a $1700 - $2000 bill. will be seeking a second opinion.
