Bought the car from a licensed dealer for my daughter to drive to school in September of 2015. Just had 20,000 maintenance done two weeks ago, and told tires were fine. As she was driving in a parking lot at 5-10 mph, the two passenger tires blew out through the sidewall and made a loud popping sound. There was no glass/nails/obstacles in the road, nothing ran over. The tires had been rotated according to manufacture, and were only serviced by a licensed Volkswagen dealer in Maryland. Upon researching, there are multiple issues with this particular tire blowing out through the sidewall with low mileage which seems to be a manufacturer defect. There have also been crashes and injuries as this can happen on a highway. We were lucky, my daughter was in a parking lot and able to pull over. I am writing this because the public needs to be aware, and these tires should be recalled immediately given the number of complaints settled o the BBB. I had to replace all 4 tires at my expense despite the car still being under warranty and the tires only having 20,500 miles on them with plenty of tread life left (8/32).
