A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I have a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen. Since day one I have noticed that my power supply cords for my devices do not fit properly into the car's 2 auxiliary power outlets. When cord was plugged into the outlet the cord connector stem would "pop out" slightly which made me believe that there was not proper connection. This happened with every device that was plugged into these outlets. This did not pose an issue until about 8 months ago.

Within the last 8 months the car has blown 4+ fuses to the car auxiliary power outlets. I use only one device power cord at a time. I mainly use my portable dual dvd player and my cell phone in the front power outlet. The power cord supplies power to both dvd units simultaneously. I have been using the dvd player for more than 1 year with no issues. May 2016, the dvd power cord was plugged into the power outlet in the front, sparked and caught fire. When unplugged, the cord had melted and the component pieces had exploded from the cord.

That is when I took to Napleton Volkswagen in Sanford Florida to have the power outlet examined. The technician and service manager suggested that my device power cords (my phone charger and the dvd player and any other device that was ever used in my Jetta) was not compatible. Instead of exploring the possibility of defective power outlets they only changed the fuse and sent me on my way, 2 separate times within one week. When I asked if the power outlets could be defective, the tech and service manager stated that no other customers have complained about this issue..my response was could it be possible that my particular vehicle may be defective.

They still were adamant about my incompatible device power cords being the issue, refused to investigate further, essentially telling me nothing is compatible with my cars auxiliary power outlets. My warranty expires June 22, 2016. This experience has left me to believe that the service manager is attempting to suppress a defect until my warranty expires so that they do not have to fix a problem that could potential be an expensive fix. I am very dissatisfied with the treatment of the service department at my local dealership. I am taking my VW to a trusted mechanic to receive a second opinion.
