GM Recalls 426,000 Trucks and SUVs For Loose Brake Pedals
General Motors says brake pedals can come loose because of loose pivot bolt nuts.

— General Motors is recalling over 426,000 SUVs and trucks because the brake pedals can loosen.

GM says the recalled vehicles include the 2015-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500, 2015-2016 Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicles and 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 heavy duty trucks.

GM and Flex-N-Gate, the supplier of the brake pedal assemblies, analyzed assemblies from three trucks because of reports of loose or noisy brake pedals. Both companies found loose pivot bolt nuts within the brake pedal assemblies, causing an internal investigation to be opened.

The investigation determined that the brake pedal pivot bolt threads are not long enough to allow for full engagement of the locking feature of the nut, which can lead to a loosening of the nut.

Not only can a loose brake pedal cause serious trouble trying to stop a truck, but the pedal can also interfere with the accelerator pedal.

The 2015-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 heavy duty trucks were manufactured October 1, 2013, to February 1, 2016. The 2015-2016 Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicles were built March 1, 2014, to February 1, 2016, and the 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 heavy duty trucks were manufactured October 29, 2013, to February 1, 2016.

General Motors doesn't know when the brake pedal recall will begin. Dealers will inspect the pivot bolt installation and if needed, add adhesive to the nut and reinstall the nut at an increased torque.

Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 800-222-1020 or GMC at 800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 20760.
