The door lock problem was discovered at an assembly plant in May 2017, but only one car had the problem. Mercedes engineers investigated and determined riveting problems occurred at the supplier, Kiekert AG. The supplier made changes to the rear door locks so any parts made after June 21, 2017, do not have the problem.

The automaker didn't explain more about the door lock problems, but did say the recall should begin in January 2018.

Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace any faulty left rear door locks, but owners with questions should call 877-496-3691.
