Sprinter 3500 Vans Recalled Due to Crosswind Assist
Mercedes Sprinter 3500 and Freightliner Sprinter 3500 vans have faulty Crosswind Assist features.

— Daimler is recalling nearly 2,200 model year 2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 and Freightliner Sprinter 3500 vans equipped with Crosswind Assist, a function that activates automatic brake interventions in the event of strong crosswinds.

The system works through the adaptive electronic stability program to assist a van driver in dangerous crosswinds that can affect stability when driving a vehicle shaped like a box.

Sprinter 3500 van owners won't have any warning the system isn't working, even though sales materials emphasize the Crosswind Assist feature.

Daimler discovered the problem in August 2017 during production, but no van customers have complained about experiencing the issue.

The Crosswind Assist recall will begin January 2018 when dealers will update the electronic stability program software.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 and Freightliner Sprinter 3500 van owners with concerns may call 854-888-3214.
