My check engine light has been on for a while now. It is really crazy because usually in the winter when it is dry and cold it goes off but in the spring when it starts to warm up and get wet out it comes back on. I wish I knew what was causing it!!!

First the engine light came on, then the oil light started flashing every time I hit the brakes. I had just had the oil changed on it. It only has 67,00 miles on it, and in February 2009 I was driving on the freeway and it started to lose power. The car completely stalled on me, leaving me stranded. I had to have it towed to find out by the mechanic that the engine has to be replaced! I am very upset! This is going to cost me $3,000 to fix! I am still paying on this car that I cannot drive! Is their someone out their that can help me? I am disabled and don't have the money for these outrageous repairs. Is their some kind of lemon law where I can fight this?

I bought this car at Vegas City Motors for $5,500 plus tax. I test drove the car and
commented that the engine is gutless. He responded say it was only 2.7L and a fairly
long car. It was very roomy and the car was just detailed. The engine light did
not come on for almost 2 days. We thought it was something simple like the gas cap
was not firmly on. We brought it to Tire Works for a check-up the day before when the
engine light was not on yet. We changed all the belts, fluids, timing, etc. That check up
cost $400.00. Then after all this the engine light turns on. We then brought to Ted Weins
and said it was the timing chain. We were mad because Tire Works just charged us
for a loose nut or bolt in the chain guard. So we paid double for exactly the samething
at two different reputable garages; and they could not find what is causing the engine
light come on.
We finally found a honest mechanic and he explained that the 2.7L intrepid has been
recalled under various situations. Of course I googled his story and it checked and that
is why I writing you.
After reading what I read about this engine and car I am wondering if Chrysler even
cares how their cars leave the lot as long as they leave. They new the car was a piece
of junk so they changed the warranty from 7 years 70,000 miles to 3 years 36,000 mi.
in 2003. Chrysler should be making billions with this sly move on their customers
but no, they just keep flopping on their face. I think they use to much glue in that factory. I just would like to know how to tackle a Jet flying CEO even when in months
he would be bankrupt. Well the company would anyway. Well shout me the sh*t,
I waiting. Jeff

Intrepid SE 2.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

Check engine light came on the code that was read say evap emission malfunction or leak. I replace the gas cap that did nothing. So I replaced the purge flow canister very easy to fix 10 min. Light went off. I have had a couple sensors go bad, I have replaced all myself most are easy to change. My water outlet just broke and the part is 100 and labor around 200. I have heard all the problems but the car has served me well the past three years. I have 115,000 miles on it right now and my oil light still does not come on. I change the oil myself every 3500 miles with 4 quarts Castrol GTX and 1 quart Lucas oil stabilizer. Also every 10 to 15,000 miles I add a product called seafoam to my crankcase (where the oil goes) and it helps to clean the engine. I also add the same product to a full tank of gas every 10 to 15 fill ups. Hope this is help full.

Since 47000 mark, Every other time I take the car in for an oil change something lights up. Most often the engine light which one of the mechanics suggested the gas cap was loose. He was right, every time I re-tighten it the light will go off in about a day.
Highlight problems:
Cam sensor - engine shutting off as you slow down, will not restart right away (also had to replace sensor located next to cam sensor)
Oil sending Unit - oil light will flicker when you come to a stop, happens more often in cool weather???
Leak in TOP of radiator - PLASTIC piece cracked and coolant leaks out. Car over heats at the drop of a hat. Also, heard this complaint by many others with Intrepid.
Simply put, Daimler-Chrysler installed some really cheap parts into the engine of this vehicle. Which is a shame because the style and class of the Intrepid is nice. Now we pay the price.
I will never own another Dodge and I am real quick to tell people. Especially since this car has left me on the side of the ride three times.

I don't know if this is what the problem was, but after I had my cooling system flushed, the check engine light stopped coming on. This was the first car we ever bought and I was paranoid. We got an extended warranty but it doesn't cover sh*t. Our oil light also comes on with plenty of oil and we were told it was a sensor. Who knows. Sad thing is because our credit was bad at the time we paid at 23% interest and we still own 3 more years. Hopefully we'll be okay though.

I had this car for less than a month when this first happened, and it has happened every month. Sometimes the light will go off by itself in a day or two. The rest of the time, I have to pay to have a diagnostic run costing me $100.00 a pop every time, just to have the repair company tell me that the test came back negative. Like nothing is wrong with the engine at all, yet the stupid "check engine" light keeps coming on month after month! If I had this dianostic test run every time, I would have spent over $1,000.00 in just the 7 months I've owned this car. As it stands, I've spent several hundred dollars having it run, that's the part that is a pain in the ass! If the test could at least tell me there's a problem and get it fixed, that would be one thing, but to keep having it come up like nothing is wrong and nothing can be done to "fix" it.
