Very embarrassing sitting at a stoplight and the transmission won't engage. Cold weather makes the problem unbearable. Really should get rid of the car.

When I come to a stop in my 1998 Stratus the transmission will put itself in neutral and will not move. It does not help to shift thru the gears. To get the car to move again I have to turn off the engine and restart the car. Then it will work fine for a while. There seems to be no factor that causes this to happen, although is seems to be worse when the engine and transmission are cold.
