CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

I kept hearing a strange noise when I applied my brakes. When I took the vehicle in their diagnosis was that a pin was breaking on the front caliper on the front right tire. They replaced the pin, right front wheel bearing assembly, and hub. They replaced the front brake pads and inspected the brake system. Hub assembly was "wobbling" causing the pins to break and caused my brake pads to ruin.

The brake booster failed and caused the vehicle to stop in the middle of a busy intersection. I had the brake booster replaced at 51K miles. I now have 85K miles on the vehicle and as of 9/5/14, the brake booster has failed again. I have contacted Ford and they say they cannot do anything about it.

I was driving on a local highway with cruise control on and a merging truck forced me to take the car of cruise and the pedal was so hard I couldn't at first and im a 250 lb guy was glad my wife was not driving. Since then it has become much worse and appears the brake booster has failed. With very little research this looks like an issue with this model year and several others. I travel highway a lot so my mileage is higher than most of this age and may also be why it didn't show earlier. The booster loses pressure fast enough to be a real hazard to drive you have to stand on the pedal to get your brakes to work. I have taken the car off the road till I can fix it cant afford Ford repair costs 580+ but some may try to drive it and they will get in an accident.

While driving approximately 10-15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed repeatedly with a delayed response. The malfunctioned recurred whenever the brake pedal was engaged. Hard to push on the pedal and very firm. Stop car and restart it's ok until you drive and stop again. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the brake booster cylinder was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000. This is very dangerous and non-drivable.

Edge 6-cyl

  • 61,000 miles
While driving depressed the brake pedal and felt a lot of resistance without much braking. After a second or three the pedal started to plunge to the floor applying the brakes with great force. Took to local dealer where they replaced the master brake booster. This was at 61000 and was not under warranty. Just today April 15, 2014 it happened again. Took it to the dealer and received the same prognosis, the master brake booster is bad. The car currently has 120000 on it, kind of odd that it was nearly the same duration for the second one to go bad. This time the cost is nearly double that of last time. This is ultimately a very dangerous defect as it quickly happens and you may not stop in time to avoid collision.

I was driving along and attempted to stop at a red light. My brakes suddenly became extremely resistant to my foot pressure and a high pitched squealing noise accompanied the situation. I was not able to stop immediately but managed to escape a collision with oncoming traffic. I drove my vehicle, cautiously, to a Ford dealership and the mechanic diagnosed the problem (brake booster) immediately. He stated he had two 2007 Ford Edge vehicles in the shop with the same problem (bad brake booster). The internet is flooded with this issue in the Ford Edge. I and many others have been effected financially and emotionally. A recall on the break booster is necessary to prevent further injury and financial loss to Ford customers.

I had my front and back brake pads changed, they bled the line and I noticed that the brakes were extremely soft - pedal went all the way to the floor. Had the line rebled and same thing. Took it in to my mechanic and the power brake booster had gone out. Called dealership and they had none in stock and they were on back order - only 3 dealerships in houston area had one. Found one at a dealership on the other side of town, bought it and had the mechanic install it, rebleed the brake line. Now the pedal would be stiff and hard to press down to get truck to stop. Took it back in and had the line rebled and the rotors re-turned. That did the trick and it has worked fine since.

While driving I notices that when pressing on the brakes that the brake pedal would go all the way to the floor making it very difficult to stop. I had to pump the brakes several times just to slow down and the brake pedal would still go to the floor. Got the card to a service center and after a complete check by the service technician I was told that the brake booster was bad and that it was preventing brake flood to flow the brakes. I cost me $680 to fix the problem. I went online and it seems to be a problem with 2007 Ford Edge vehicles and that many other customers are having the same problem. Luckily I wasn't driving fast and no one was in front of me while driving or I could have crashed without the use my brakes. Ford needs to address this problem if they haven't already. Has there been a Ford recall to address the brake problems with the 2007 Ford Edge?
