Water pump fails without warning and causes significant engine damage when it goes - water in the engine! Water pump repair is far more significant on this engine than on typical vehicles.

Edge Limited 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 113,000 miles

My water pump failed this week on my 2009 Edge with only 113,000 miles on it. Having my mechanic repair it with hope the engine is not shot. Don't know the final cost yet but estimates about $1300. This is crazy for a $120 part. Mechanic says the engine might not be any good after this failure. Water in the engine. I can only hope. The engine has to be pulled out to do the job right. This is crazy! Such poor design I've never seen. Would never buy this type engine again.
