CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

What they don't tell us... Due to the amount of electronics in the 2012 Ford Edge 2.0 4 cyl Ecoboost turbocharged vehicle without covers, everything becomes exposed to the elements. Water, snow, ice, rocks, gravel and dust. No covers means high risk exposure to the engine and every other part under the hood. Ultimately resulting in loss of or no power. Headlights blowing. System faults that truly serve no purpose. What a nightmare. Faults, faults, faults - every single day there's something new with this vehicle.

My 2012 Ford Edge has had this repeated problem of losing power for no reason. After consulting with mechanic I was told it is the throttle body. Had to replace the throttle body, I was told this is a common problem on these cars by the mechanic.

Driving down the road @45 mph and all of a sudden there was no power. I had a similar thing happen with my Ford Fusion which turned out to be the throttle body sensor which was of course NOT covered under my extended warranty. If this turns out to be the same problem I will never purchase another Ford and will tell anyone and everyone I see.

Update from Dec 7, 2016: This problem was the throttle body. The mechanic at the Mineola Texas Ford Dealership said he replaces these every day at a cost of over $600. Quite a nice chunk of change.

There is absolutely no reason for this problem. One of the workmen at the Ford dealership told me that they were replacing throttle bodies all the time. This is not covered under warranties.

Edge SEL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

Sudden deceleration, rough idle, service light on, no warning as to when the deceleration would occur. On one occasion, barely got across railroad tracks. On a 2nd occasion, was traveling on the interstate, rapid deceleration, rough idle...going barely 5 miles an hour in traffic. Re starting car would work briefly, no computer message even though the service wrench lit up each time.

Googled the problem and the Internet had hundreds of similar complaints. The posting said to replace throttle body as it would solve the problem. This is what my mechanic and I decided to to. Amazing that Ford had drastically reduced the price of the part! I almost had an accident on 3 of the 6 or so occasions that the loss of power occurred over the course of a week.

My car was no longer under warranty.

Edge SEL 2.0L

I posted earlier complaint about numerous issues in the past couple of months. Ultimately, we were warned not to drive the car and took it to the dealer.....no choice! They have had it for 5+ weeks. It needs the turbo replaced and it was on back order. What does that tell you? Five weeks on back order! There have to be serious issues with thousands of other vehicles if it takes this long to get parts. Ford needs to recall. No excuses. This, not to mention the other safety issues that we have mentioned in earlier complaints. Ford needs to do what's right or face losing business. I am tired of their recalls only on specific models or years.....this is not isolated.

Every time I stopped at a red light for more than 2 to 3 mins my car would die. I love the car and have only had it for 8 months. If I keep the a/c on it would not die. I am totally disappointed that this just started happening. My brakes appears to be working at times but sometimes it feels like I can't stop but no warning lights have come on in the car. Please help with advice.

Not happy with this vehicle...This is still a brand new vehicle now worried what other problems I will have down the line. The worst part is that Ford cant figure out what exactly is wrong with it. This is totally a safety issue. Your vehicle is not suppose to lose power and turn off while your driving. We have always been a Ford family but this is really having me re think us buying another FORD ever!
