CarComplaints.com Notes: There was plenty of hope that Ford would fix their “door ajar” warning light issue for the 2014 model year. This widespread problem has caused the previous 3 model years to stay on top of defect trend lists.

So far, the 2014 Edge doesn't share the poor reputation of prior model years.

While driving to work my car started hesitating and then suddenly an engine light came on and the car died. All this happened in less than 30 seconds. I was able to get off the road and into a gas station lot but was not able to start the car again. Had the vehicle towed to my usual mechanic who also had difficulty getting it started again but when they did they heard loud noise coming from the engine. They are unable to determine where specifically in the engine it is as they don't see anything loose or missing and are recommending a total engine replacement which will cost me $5,800 for a used engine. I realize this car has a lot of miles, but it's only 4 years old. Mechanic said he has no idea what could have caused this to happen.

While going down the highway, accelerator suddenly stopped functioning, wrench light came on, and engine went into limp home mode. Barely made it off the road. Very fortunate not to have caused a major accident.

Turned the car off and then on again. The starter turned over a few extra times but engine started and car worked normally. Took it to dealer and no error code was found as memory was erased when engine was shut off and then restarted. Still made an appointment (48 hours out) and plan on showing them all the info about throttle body problems with ford that have been linked to accelerator suddenly not working. Hopefully I can overcome the expected "can not do anything without error code".

On a clear, sunny, Sunday drove from 9:00 AM northwest of Austin, Texas about 250 miles with several stops along the way to 3:00 PM. entering Galveston, Texas. No problems of any kind along the way. Entering town, driving along in clear weather, dry smooth road about 30 mph. Engine suddenly quit - dead. Coasted into (fortunate) parking lot. Noted bright red oil pressure light came on while coasting - other lights also but could not read them due to stressful situation. Checked oil level - full and normal. Tried starting engine - started right up with no problem. Started and stopped engine several times - all with no problem. Cautiously continued driving in Galveston and returned back to dealership near home. No further problems with engine. Dealership service could find no problem and had no real idea what caused engine to suddenly die while driving. Problem has not repeated - yet.
