CarComplaints.com Notes: There was plenty of hope that Ford would fix their “door ajar” warning light issue for the 2014 model year. This widespread problem has caused the previous 3 model years to stay on top of defect trend lists.

So far, the 2014 Edge doesn't share the poor reputation of prior model years.

I'm not complaining to be mean, rude, or hurtful. However, I am very disappointed to discover that Ford made such a flimsy product in this chrome wheel. I am in the process of trying to find a replacement rim that the car wash will pay for. If these wheels are scraped the thin layer of metal plating comes off. It seems to be a plastic veneer underneath. I am enjoying my Ford, but I am sad because of this issue with the wheels. Customers need to know that this can happen to them. Sure they look really nice but they are not very durable at all. If they were solid metal I would not mind if my wheels were scraped, but they are ruined. I can not glue it back together. Well, I could with epoxy but that would be weird looking. I need to get a whole new rim and the Ford dealer gave me an estimate of 1,000.00 approx plus tax. Now I am trying to find a less expensive rim because the car wash doesn't seem to want to pay that much. In all fairness, yes, that is a lot of money for a rim that is not durable! Thanks.

chrome plating bubbling off

Dealer said it is not a warranty issue. None of the other chrome is doing this, so it can't be something environmental and something that was used on the roads this winter.. They said it had to be something from the car wash pre-wash (some kinda acid) I have verified the car wash does not use a acid based pre-wash. Once again no other chrome is effected except the wheels.

It looks like the wheels have some kind of chrome plated plastic cover?? I can't tell if you have to replace the whole wheel and cover or not??

One dealer said 1,500 each??? times 4??? The Car was only 5-6 months old.. Haven't been able to get the dealer or the main Ford division to resolve, they are blaming something else.. I own a 2012 Ford truck with the same type chrome wheels and they aren't doing this. Not sure what to do next.
