We bought the 2016 Ford Edge used in Oct 2020. Sometime in about July 2022 when I opened the back door to put some groceries inside, I found that the entire rear seat - bottom & back - was literally COVERED in green mold. Upon further inspection, I discovered the rear floorboard under the mats was wet, as was the seat.Only the rear seating area was wet. Not the front seats or floorboard. Not the carpet in the rear storage under the hatch. Not the headliner. Only the rear seat and floorboard were wet and moldy. We found no leaks of any kind.
I removed the mats to air dry, left the windows open the next day (sunny and dry weather), and scrubbed the mold off the seat with a Norwex microfiber scrubbing cloth which has a microsilver bacteria, mold, and mildew inhibiting agent woven in it. These actions kept the mold away for about a month or so, and then it happened again. But I have to make a separate complaint about that.
I don't know what the deal is, but there is no way this is normal nor healthy! It's disturbing and gross! I had noticed a "sloshing" sound while turning corners, but we couldn't locate the source of the noise. We checked the rear and front doors to see if water had somehow gotten trapped inside of them, but didn't find anything.
I bought some Damp Rid and hung it in the rear seating area, and it did its job over the next few weeks.
