My problem really is for several months now I have been using my trip odometer so I know when to fill up with gas, very annoying. The other problem is the fact it is out of warranty so I was in no hurry to take to the dealer. In any case, my lease is up on my truck and I decided that I would like to buy the truck(really low buyout). Finally had a chance to take the truck to the dealer to find out why the gas gauge does not work. To my shock they told me there is a problem in the wiring harness that runs from the front of the drivers side to the back of the truck. These wires run through the box frame apparently. My problem is the explanation the dealer gave me. The parts and labor would cost $975.00CDN. The cost is one thing, but when they told me it is a fire hazard and could cause other electrical malfunctions all because of where the wiring a located and open to the elements, I could not believe it. As far as I am concerned this is a design flaw and the wiring harnesses should be better protected. If I go ahead with the repair using the same harnesses, this could happen again. The Service Person also told me they have had this problem before. I don't know about you but electrical problems which can cause fires especially when a vehicle is less the 3 years old does not make sense to me. I feel this issue should be noted and Ford owners be made aware. To me this is a classic recall issue. By the way I am not having this repair made and I carry a fire extinguisher.
