2016 Ford F150 XLT 3.5L Ecoboost defrost/dash/floor vent control stopped working. Air was only coming out dash vents. Temp control still works, i.e. heat blows warm air, a/c blows cold air, but again only at the dash level. Several online forums said the problem was a 'blend door actuator' which apparently also has other names, e.g. "heater air door actuator', 'main mode actuator' and maybe others. However, other commenters said it could be a vacuum leak or check valve issue. So I made appointment with dealership, but they couldn't get me in for around 4 weeks.
I thought, what the heck, in the meantime, I'll order an actuator for $15 & see if that fixes it. Well, after an hour of wrangling underneath the dash to get the old one off & the new one on... it works, but not 100%. Now it doesn't blow out the dash (unless the dash mode is chosen) which is an improvement, but only if BOTH defrost & floor are selected. It's better, but still not working as it should. After watching YT videos, this appears to be a somewhat common problem on Fords.
