CarComplaints.com Notes: Whenever a new product is introduced, there's bound to be some problems. And man oh man, does the 2006 Commander have some problems.

It's the plight of the 1st-generation adopter: you get the newest and shiniest in exchange for a handful of issues that get ironed out in future versions. But what happens when that handful of issues becomes a bucketload? The 2006 Commander has quality control issues like the door handles breaking off and the sunroof leaking. But what's truly worrisome is the electrical problems like the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly, gauges going crazy or the cruise control having a mind of its own.

Bottom line: if you want a Jeep Commander, you're better off looking at a later model year.

I own a 2006 Jeep Commander that has a windshield defect. I have replaced this windshield once already and have 2 new stone chips in the windshield. I have talked to several other people that have the same vehicle model and they are seeing the same problem. This seems like a design malfunction.

2006 Jeep Commander has a design flaw in their windshield. I have 5 chips on 5 different occasions and on 03/07/08 a new chip has turned inti 8 inch crack in front of drivers view. I understand their has been several complaints to Chrysler about this flaw but dealer says Chrysler will not replace or fix windshield. Dealer admitted design flaw has caused this continued problem.

I own a 2006 Jeep Commander 4X4 V8. I have had a ton of problems with it. It makes a terrible wind noise coming from the windshield, my ac sounds like a freight train when switch to or from ac, and the most dangerous is that my car dies while turning on a regular basis. I have taken the car in and the dealer tells me they can not find the problem. I am so annoyed with my death trap. I drive around my 3 kids, my husband, and myself. I fear for ours lives being in this car. It is unsafe and will end up killing someone one day.

I have had my Jeep Commander since late 2005 and I have had to replace the one time, but it will need to be replace for the second time since it has two major cracks on the lower part of the windshield both going in separate directions from the lower center of the windshield, an I believe it was a good I have waited to replace my windshield because driving into work today, another crack formed after being hit by a rock. This crack is on the driving side of the windshield and it quickly spread about 6 inches from the initial crack. I am concerned about this flaw in the windshield design and/or craftsmanship on the windshield (weak). I have noticed on quite a few forums this a very common occurrence with many if not all owners, and this should be carefully reviewed since this is a safety hazard which will occur quite often if no proper solution is found!

I have had my Jeep Commander for two and a half years and have had 4 cracks in my windshield each costing $40 to fix.I have also replaced my entire windshield because of a crack in my line of vision. I am a stay at home mom and do not spend hours on the freeway. I don't believe I am that unlucky to warrant all the stray projectiles during my limited highway driving or that each one would lead to a trip to auto glass repair shop. I will contact Chrysler about this also.

While driving down an empty road, absolutely no cars, there was a loud pop. After a few seconds we notice there is a small "spot" on the bottom of the driver's side windshield. We didn't see a pebble nor hear what would sound like a pebble hitting the windshield. If I look closely at the crack, it appears as is something is actually pushing on it from the inside. There is also a loud roaring noise from the windshield are while driving at higher speeds.

I took my 2006 Jeep Commander to my local dealer where I originally purchased it to get the stalling problem fixed. Five days later the service manager said that the problem was now solved (August 24,2007) finally. The service department said they put in a new program that would fix the Jeep from just losing power. August 25 Saturday morning at 8:13 while at an intersection the Jeep just died again. Another problem is the windshield breaking easily. I believe the problem with the breaking windshield could be related to the inproper fitting of the windshield which results in a loud noise being heard inside the vehicle. The dealership said they won't fix the seal problem because my Jeep has two cracks on it. I said "if you had fixed the windshield seal problem the first 3 times I brought it in we wouldn't have this problem'. no problems have yet to be solved. Ancira dealership in san antonio, tx. Many Jeep owners are purchasing multiple windshields at $385 a pop. The dealer tried to say it's just me until I pointed out all the other complaints in writing with all different VIN numbers and even showed her the rental car (Jeep Commander) which also had a cracked windshield. She's convinced too.

Front windshield seems to be easily damaged. I initially thought it was just another pebble but when it happen again while I was driving down my neighborhood street I realized something was wrong. I think the problems I'm having with a whistling noise that's heard while driving which points to a seal problem are associated. When a windshield is not properly fitted it can lead to the glass being more sensitive to damage. My dealer would not fix the seal until I replaced the windshield until I pointed out they are associated.

I have a 2006 Jeep Commander that in my experience has a severe design flaw. The windshield will not and does not deflect even small road debris. The curve/angle of the glass is the issue. My windshield has been cracked multiple times in the past 12 months I've owned the vehicle. Several others feel the same way just query the internet. This is a known problem that may end with the loss of life. This design should not have been allowed on the roads... please help.

Within 500 miles of owning a new 2006 Jeep Commander, a small stone glanced off the windshield leaving a chip. Almost immediately, the chip began to run. A few days later, some mud was flicked up by a lawnmower shattering the window in a number of places. Funny thing is, the paint stood up to the thrown mud but the windshield shattered.

I have had our 2006 Jeep Commander for just over six months. While traveling on a paved surface, a rock, about the size of a quarter, was thrown up into my windshield causing a"bullseye" exactly in my line of sight. I believe that either the design and position of the windshild or the materials used must be the problem as I have heard of others having the same promlem. I do believe that this could be a safety problem.

Windshield appears to crack easily. When the windshield was being replaced it defective body sealant/bonding was discovered. The dealership and the manufacturer were contacted, and said they would log the complaint. But they were unwilling to do anything about it. The glue used to bond the vehicle pieces at the pinch welds was soft, and could be removed with one's fingertip. The windshield sealant, when peeled off, removed the glue from the body, indicating that the paint adhered better to the body, glue was not sufficiently bonded to the body. I have pictures to document this case.

I just read an article in newspaper about the Jeep Commander's stalling problem. This has happened to me, but luckily, not at a high speed on the highway. The Commander has only stalled once on me, actually, within the last week, while driving, but many times it seriously hesitates when I start to accelerate. Questions to dealer said maybe it was poor gas, or a vapor lock (about the stalling)? I never had it documented with them about the stall, now after reading this article, I am concerned. The stall happened within the last week, so it has not been back to dealer. It started right up after I coasted to side of road, and placed in park. Have there been any complaints on the windshield angle, I have gone through three from rocks!!! glass very straight up! I do like the truck though. Purchase date approximate. I do like dealer, and have not addressed this problem to them (stall), because it only happened once, and I was unaware of current problem being looked into. I just wanted you to report mine in with your statistics.
