Whenever I fill up the gas tank with gas the filler tube over flows with gas and does not allow the fuel pump to cut off automatically. This has happened since the vehicle was new. Gas gushes out of the filler tube and down the side of the vehicle and creates a large pool of gasoline on the ground. This action can be easily repeated. One must stop the fuel pump before the tank is full and not allow the pump to cut off automatically.

There was a recall on my Jeep Liberty issued October of 2013. It is now July 2014 and I still have not received my "follow up" letter. I spoke with my dealer on many occasions and the remedy parts are still not available. The following is an excerpt from the notice sent to me. This is a serious situation and if I am rear ended, my car could explode. Waiting almost 1 year after a recall is unacceptable. "the problem is... the fuel tank on your vehicle has a small chance of experiencing a fuel leak during certain types of rear end collisions. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in an underbody fire. What your dealer will do? Chrysler intends to inspect your vehicle and install an original equipment manufacturer (oem) trailer hitch where appropriate, free of charge (parts and labor) to better manage crash forces in low-speed impacts. The parts required for this program are currently not available. Chrysler is making all reasonable efforts to obtain the parts as quickly as possible. Chrysler will contact you again by mail, with a follow-up notice, when the remedy parts are available".

I received a recall letter in 2013 recall number N46 and NHTSA campaign number 13V-252. I have not received further notification to take my Jeep in to be repaired. I called my local dealer who said they have not received any information or parts to repair our Jeep. This is a safety issue....why has it taken a year to get the parts to the dealers to fix our Jeep? when filling the vehicle with gas, the pump's handle will suddenly and forcibly stop (as though the tank were full) and gasoline will spit out of the fuel opening, despite the fact it is gallons away from being filled to full capacity. This happens with every different gas station's pump handles, so to be clear, it is not an issue with the pump or handle, or the individual's ability to pump gas correctly; it is an issue with the gas line of this vehicle and the indicator or regulator or whatever part is defective.

This is the exact same issue we had with our 2008 Wrangler sahara unlimited, for which a recall was issued in 2013 for a defective gas line collar. Once the recall was remediated the problem stopped. So I called Jeep today to discuss why a recall had not been issued for our Liberty since it has the same problem. The answer I received led me to believe that not enough complaints had been received by your office; so I am filing a complaint with you today so that you can investigate the need for a recall for this issue on the Jeep Liberty model. My daughter-in-law owns this vehicle and allows me to drive it, so I am filing this complaint to bring this issue to your attention on her behalf, and whose information appears in section 3, below. Thank you for your attention to this serious issue.
