After work I drovehome and when I was ready to get out of car my car would not turn off. After taking it to a mechanic I was told I need a need a new ignition switch, housing unit and new keys. After researching on the web there are hundreds if not thousands with the exact same complaint. I feel there needs to be a recall on this. This is a safety issue. After reading the complaints apparently Saturn or GM does nothing about this. Does someone have to die inorder for this to change? so now I have to pull the fuse and disconnect the battery in order for my car to stop running. My key is still in the ignition, and have to keep my doors unlocked because now I have no key.

I drove my car to work and when I got there realized I could not turn my vehicle off or turn the key in the ignition at all. I drove to the nearest GM dealership and the service employee immediately knew the problem when I told him the symptoms. He also informed me that this is a problem he saw "at least once a week". they ordered the parts and told me it could cost $300-$600 to replace the ignition lock cylinder and the housing component, if it needs to be replaced. After hearing how much it would cost I started researching and found several other Saturn owners having this same problem. I called the service employee and he redirected me to GM's corporate office. I saw on the phone for an hour, mostly on hold, while the employees negotiated and they came to the conclusion that they could not help me because it was a Saturn vehicle, not GM; the car's warranty had expired; the dealership was unfamiliar with my vehicle; and GM did not want to pay out of their pocket for the part and labor. They are still going to replace the parts because I need to have my vehicle in order to commute to school and work. I'm going to pay the $300-$600 for the repairs as well as the $50/day for the rental car. GM is unwilling to do anything, other than fix the problem and charge Saturn owners the full amount, unless there's a recall issued for the part.

My husband and I were going to the movies. Once we arrived, my husband tried to turn the car off and it would not shut off. He kept working on the key and the key came out but the car kept running. We drove back home with out the key in the ignition to see if my key would shut if off. It didn't so we went to the dealership and had to leave it there to be worked on Monday. This is the first and only time this has happened. We are anticipating that it will be under our extended warranty and we will not have to pay the $400 dollars. I have found many other Saturn have had this problem. Therefore, way has there not been a recall? I would like to know how to get this issue on a recall.
