My 2007 Saturn Ion's ignition lock cylinder is broken. Apparently this is a very common problem with Saturn, and fixing the problem once is not a guarantee that it will not need to be replaced again. When I arrived home, my car would not turn off. The key would not turn back, however, we could completely remove the key, and we could turn the key to the on position. My husband was able to turn off the car by pulling a fuse from the under the hood of the car after a little bit of research and a lot of wasted gas. We purchased a new ignition lock cylinder from the closest dealership, but that did not resolve the problem. We have now learned we also need to replace the ignition starter switch. When placing vehicle in park, the doors remain locked and key cannot be removed from ignition. Took vehicle to Chevy dealer for repair and they said my factory warranty was expired. I currently have 22,500 on vehicle and I purchased the vehicle on 1-1-2008 as a new vehicle at the dealership. I am being told by Saturn customer service that the warranty went into effect in 2006 on the day that my vehicle "was delivered" to dealership and over a year before I ever owned it! what a scam!

I own a 2007 Saturn Ion and have been experiencing an ignition problem. Everytime I park my car and turn the key to shut it off it gets "stuck". no matter how I park, wiggle it, etc.. it gets stuck then I have to sit there anywhere from 30sec-hours before it will release. I brought it to my local Saturn authorized service department (1hr away) and they could not find anything wrong they told me it must be spilt soda in the shifter and cleaned the inside of my shifter and charged $90. To only drive an hour home and have it keep happening! Saturn will not help and my warranty expired. I did some research online and thousands of people have the same problem. Shouldn't this be a recall?

My Saturn 2007 Ion will not shut off & I cannot get the key to release out of the ignition. I had to pull the ignition fuse & disconnect the battery. I called Saturn who denied the problems with the ignition systems. I went onto Consumer Affairs.com, entered consumer complaints about Saturn Ion ignition lock & pulled up 50 pages of documented problems concerning the passlock system. Why has there not been a recall on this matter? not 50 incidents, 100's of incidents. My car went out of warranty 1 month ago. It is estimated at over $500 to repair with no guarantee it will not occur again! please help us & check out this problem. I read that GM issued a service bulletin 04-08-45-005D concerning this matter.

2007 Saturn Ion. Happened on September 7, 2010. Put key in ignition, start the car, however the car could not be turned off. The key was stuck in ignition and car had to be taken to dealership. Car was taken to lockhart Cadillac in greenwood, Indiana. I was told that this is not under warranty or a recall, however I have read many complaints online where Saturn customers are having this same problem. While dropping the car off at the dealership, not only was I told that it was not warranty or a recall I was also told by them that this is happening with a lot of Saturn Ion's and that it would be between $500-$600. Cost seems to be a bit steep for something that Saturn, or GM, should be covering because it is clearly a recall problem.

This has not been a true safety item yet, but it has the potential of being one, and if you look on-line under "key stuck in ignition" you will be amazed how many people have had this problem. The car companies apparently know about it because the have installed a small cover under the steering column to remove and push a button to release the key so it can be turned and removed. Many people like us have paid over $500 and still have the problem. Looks like there should be a recall to fix this. Some folk couldn't even shut the engine off and had to disconnect the battery. That' ridiculous. I'm sure I speak for hundreds and maybe thousands of people that wish someone would do something about this problem. Key stuck in ignition. Car stuck running. What an unsafe situation, in high 90 degree weather. Thank goodness my elderly grandmother was not in the car with me! roadside assistance had to come and turn it off by taking off a fuse in the hood, before towing it to the dealer. I burned my hand trying to disengage the fuse, before roadside assistance got there, because I was feeling sick standing outside in the 99 degree weather waiting. The dealer had to replace the ignition lock cylinder and housing, and I had to get a new key made at the Saturn dealer. I googled this problem, and found over 48 pages of complaints. I sure hope that there is a recall on this issue, as this presents an obvious safety problem. Hopefully Saturn drivers will not get stranded in extreme hot, cold, or dangerous conditions, with their key stuck in the ignition. The exact same problem happened with my twin sister 1 week before it happened to me. Both of us bought our 2007 Saturn Ions new, on the same date. This is more than "a coincidence." We feel as though this part of the car must have been defective. It is not a "typical, routine maintenance" type thing that should need to be replaced on a car that is only 4 years old. It presents a serious safety issue, depending on the circumstances of when it occurs.

I came home last night around 10:40pm, went to shut my car off and the key would not come out of the ignition - it was stuck "on". I took my car to my parents house (my dad has tools) and after several failed attempts to get the key out, I called onstar and they dispatched a local tow truck company to come. The guy was very rude and basically made me feel stupid for having this happen and acted like he couldn't help me with that, so I canceled the tow. We pulled some fuses and disconnected the battery and figured since at that time it was 12:30am that I would call Saturn in the morning. I went on the Consumer Affairs website and found this has happened alot to people all over the country with my same car! and nothing is being done about getting a recall, and they are charging people up to $500 or more to fix it. I think GM should recall this ignition lock and all of these charges for the defective part should be covered by them. It's not the car owner's fault that the part is bad. I only have approx. $50K miles on my 2007 Ion. I told the Saturn service department I would call them back as I am not in a position to pay that right now, so I am not sure what I am going to do.

We have a 2007 Saturn, almost everytime we drive it, the key locks and will not come out. It is very frustrating. We live in a very hot climate and sometimes it takes up to 20 mins. To get the key out. We took to the Saturn store, and they said they will not cover it. I have read a ton of complaints on this same problem in Saturn, somehow they seem to be being ignored.

Beginning last week, once the car has been started, it cannot be shut off with the key. Luckily, we do not garage this vehicle! we can put the car into"park", but the key will not turn in the ignition to any other position, and the key cannot be removed from the car. To stop the car, we pull a fuse and disconnect the battery. To start the car, we reconnect the battery and replace the fuse. While this is not as life threatening as other vehicle problems recently, it is wide-spread. 2007 Saturn Ion engine disables while driving. Dealership unable to diagnose problem, no codes. This vehicle has been at the dealership for the better part of a month and a half. This problem has occurred every time I have picked it up from the dealership, then towed in to re-diagnose. No codes at this time. It has been suggested that this car is unsafe for the consumer to drive, as this has happened on the highway and surface streets as well. There are no lights indicating that the engine failure is going to happen. The car looses all power and has to be turned to the off position and in park to restart. This is an ongoing problem and seems to have no apparent resolution. This needs to be fixed before an accident occurs. I was told by GM to pick up the vehicle and drive to and "see if it might happen again" although it happens everytime I drive the car. There is nothing that triggers the problem it happens when it happens.

Unfortunately I have a 2007 Saturn Ion which sounds like it is going to break in half over even the slightest small bumps in the road. I have a warranty on the vehicle which expired in June 2010. Although the car only has 29000 miles on it~ Saturn would not honor the warranty when I brought my car in for a check engine light~ it was the purge sensor. They wanted to charge me over $300 to repair this issue. I went online and saw many other's had reported the same problem. I also saw the part for only $26 ~however at the Saturn dealership they charged me $51 for the part. I ended up fixing the repair myself to avoid being robbed by the Saturn dealership!! I am very displeased with my car~ now the struts and control arm bushings are making significant rumble when driving over the slightest bumps in the road. At 29000 miles the car should not be making any noise!! I feel very unsafe and scared in my Saturn!! I've seen many reports of other owner's with the same vehicle that are similar. Even the GM cobalt which has the exact same platform and steering has the same issues and for that car power steering issues have been recalled but not for the Ion which ~I repeat has the same components. I bought my car when fuel costs soared and thought it would at least last me 5 years with out issues. I think GM needs to address these issues especially since so many consumers are experiencing issues at such low mileage. There are also issues with the rear defrost, power windows, steering, and transmission. I'm from mn. And it's terrible when you have a newer car that won't even take you 30,000 miles without breaking down!! I'm very disappointed and Saturn needs to recall everything on these unsafe vehicles before someone gets seriously hurt ~like Toyota. I'm sure you've had several complaints. The car is defective!! please help!! Saturn won't repair unless it's completely broken even if the car is smokin they blow you off!!! ~horrible!!!

Car will not shut off, after contacting dealer was advised to disconnect the wiring harness from the battery. Wheel sporadically locks up while driving which can causes you to loose control of the vehicle. No warning lights come on at all. Previously had this same issue with power steering in December which went out and almost caused an accident. GM has recalled several vehicles for this same safety hazard however did not include Saturn in the recall.

Contact the dealership and only remedy provided is to dangerously disconnect the wire harness under the wheel from the battery to turn the car off and then pay $300-500 dollars to have it repaired with no reason why it failed or that it won't go out again. This is dangerous and the parts are defective and should be recalled by Saturn.

My husband and I were going to the movies. Once we arrived, my husband tried to turn the car off and it would not shut off. He kept working on the key and the key came out but the car kept running. We drove back home with out the key in the ignition to see if my key would shut if off. It didn't so we went to the dealership and had to leave it there to be worked on Monday. This is the first and only time this has happened. We are anticipating that it will be under our extended warranty and we will not have to pay the $400 dollars. I have found many other Saturn have had this problem. Therefore, way has there not been a recall? I would like to know how to get this issue on a recall.
