I bought it brand new in 1999 and purchased the extended warranty for 7 yr/75,000. I have been keeping up with all the scheduled maintenance. The car had a transmission leak at 66,000 miles and got it fixed at the car dealer. A few days ago, the transmission of the car broke down (differential part) in the middle of nowhere about 120 miles from my hometown. I had it towed back ($400) and the car dealer looked at it and said the transmission was busted. Called Toyota company and told the agent that this car must have manufacturing defects. Transmission busted at 72,000 miles for a Toyota??? The customer representative of Toyota said my car is just too old. Even the local car dealer's service representative said that it is really out of ordinary and suggested me to file a complaint to Toyota. I am not going to get a Toyota anymore. No way. It is not a safe car.
