While backing out of a small parking lot yesterday, the wheels of my 2001 Camry suddenly started to rev up loudly. Tried to step on the brakes and my car lurched backward hitting another vehicle. Then I tried to gain control by putting the car in park. This did not work either, and my car moved sideways hitting another vehicle on the passenger side, in the back. My car then lurched forward and continued to move erratically until I was finally able to put it in park. There was considerable damage to the first vehicle my car collided with, on the passenger side. The other vehicle had a broken axle and cracked fender. The bumper of my car was hanging off, I had a flat tire on the passenger side, and my back fender was also cracked. My insurance company said that my car is not worth fixing. People keep asking me how this happened. It was like my Camry had a mind of its own. The police officer, on the scene, told me that there has been several complaints about stuck accelerator pedals. My insurance agent agreed and said that it has occurred with Camrys from 1999 to 2005! How come there was no recall? Thought I was in the twilight zone for a minute there. So glad I found this site to learn that I'm not alone.
