My car is 3years and 3 months old with 35,591km on it and the O2 Sensor packs up! I'm out of my 3 year or 60,000km warranty by only 3 months.
Diagnostic $109 plus tax - To find what set off the Check Engine Light Off New O2 Sensor $228.20 plus tax 1 Hr Labor to install $109 plus tax
All said and done the total $504.21 with tax
Note The dealership cleared the code and when I got my car the 'Check Engine Light' was still off. The Sensor is on order, but we will see if the light stays off or I will have to book the appointment for the repair. At the moment I'm only out the initial diagnostic.
Update from Mar 3, 2018: After writing this complaint and the dealership asking how my last service call went where I mentioned the details of how upset I was to have an engine light come on at so lower mileage the dealership offered to replace the sensor at no charge. After the O2 sensor was replaced it was explained to me that the sensor was covered in rust proofing undercoat ( I've been having Krown Rust proofing done each year) and this caused the sensor to malfunction. I was told that Toyota would honor the replacement but if I continued to get the rust proofing and it happened again that I would have to cover the next cost. So, my choice is to stop rust proof my car or risk having another sensor go? I would think the rust proofing would protect the sensor and not impede it's performance. This is when you need to have a mechanic friend.
