The contact owns a 2017 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the steering wheel started vibrating. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact depressed the brake pedal and continued to drive. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving in the rain and as she depressed the brake pedal, the vehicle swerved, almost causing the contact to crash into another vehicle. The contact was able to regain control of the steering wheel and continued to drive. The vehicle was taken an independent mechanic for tire alignment. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle did not need to be aligned and there were no issues with the tires. The contact stated that the failure mainly occurred while driving at faster speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that no issues were found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

I was involved in a head on collision with a stone fixture, when my Camry too me off the road I was traveling 35mph initially and the car went up to 60 mph onto the side walk. The steering system locked and I had no control over the car anymore and when I applied the brakes it caused the car to accelerate faster. I was going 60 mph into a stone fixture where me car crashed. I'm badly injured due to this car going crazy on me. I had to be transported by ambulance to the hospital for my injuries. The car was totaled out in this crash. Also when the car was placed back in park after the cash it jumped out of gear and I was almost sent into oncoming traffic. Thank god I lived to speak on this very scary encounter. Thank god no one was on the sidewalk this day.

At 45000 miles a rattle over bumps and at low speed developed under the dashboard. The rattle increased until I brought it to the local Toyota dealer with 50000 miles on it. Through the process it was discovered the steering column had to be replaced at a cost of $135 diagnostic fee, $555 for labor and $757 for the steering column. The new column solved the problem. The cause of loose part or parts is inside of the column. I contacted Toyota customer service and got no satisfaction. The service tech at my dealer told me there has been other cases of steering column looseness and replacement. I believe this is a safety concern and needs to be addressed. I have all the records. I wish Toyota should step up address this problem.

I was driving in the hov lane on the 170 at 6:30pm. 2/7/2020. There was a sudden white flash and explosion. All of the airbags deployed. I could not see where I was going. All I could see was out my rear window. I tried to steer the car to the side of the freeway but it stopped in the fast lane. All I could see where cars swerving to miss us. I didn't know if my hazards could be seen as I couldn't see my instrument panel. So I pumped the brakes hoping the lights were working and the cars coming could see them. At the same time, I thought the car was on fire because my throat and lungs were burning. My daughter was knocked unconscious. I couldn't move because of the seat belts. When she came to she called 911. The freeway was closed down. The police found no evidence of us being hit or us hitting anything. No report was issued. The airbags had to be cut to get us out. We were trapped in a car that we couldn't tell if it was on fire or not. If it was we wouldn't have gotten out! the car was deemed a total loss. I believe there was a short that may have caused the air bags to go off. Or the airbags just went off on their own. I do not know what the white light or deafening bang was. I can only call it an explosion.

While driving on a street at approximately 25mph, I approached an intersection with a stop sign. I applied the brakes and lost power steering electric boost, ABS system, stability control, and speedometer. I was driving in a straight line leading up to the intersection. There was no warning leading up to this loss of function. All systems remain non-functioning. Warning lights for steering, brakes, ABS, traction control, and check engine light are illuminated. The dealer states that the ABS actuator is faulty. The repair part not immediately available. The Toyota rep stated that there was no additional warranty at this time. The repair will be $3000. There are other reports of similar issues. This could be an unrecognized systemic safety hazard. My vehicle has not experienced slowdowns as others have reported when experiencing similar system failures. Uncommanded slowdowns in the heavy traffic in this region could result in a fatal accident. Request NHTSA immediately look into this issue as there are other reports of this issue. The dealer indicated that the ABS parts are on back order which leads to the inference that ABS actuators are being replaced while no NHTSA reports are being filed systems impacted includes, brakes, steering, speed control, stability control. Systems are basic safety systems.

On January 25, 2017 at approx. 7:37 pm I started up the vehicle that was not in motion. Before placing the vehicle in motion I noticed the skid and parking brake lights were both on. I then checked the parking brake and it was in the release position (up). I put the vehicle into motion and both lights remained on. At approx. 7:45 pm I was driving cautiously on the highway at approx. 60 mph. At about 7:47 pm all of the sudden I felt the steering wheel stiffen, and at the same time the vehicle began to decelerate from 60 mph to speeds of approx. 40-45 mph. Simultaneously, I pressed on the gas pedal to accelerate but the vehicle failed to increase in speed so that is when I pressed on the gas pedal down to the floor but still the vehicle did not increase in speed. Taking notice of my immediate surroundings, I immediately noticed the skid and parking lights remained lit, so I used my left foot to double check the parking brake position and it remained in the release position (up). Not realizing what was actually happening to the vehicle, I panicked at that moment and I pressed down on the parking brake and this is when the vehicle spun out of control and off the highway into a ditch causing personal minor head injury to myself and my front passenger. The damage to the undercarriage is unknown, but the front and rear fender were proved obvious damaged. The air bags did not deploy. A police report and insurance claim were filed immediately after the accident. The vehicle was drivable and was later driven to my house and remains in the driveway until investigated by my insurance company.

I just bought Toyota Camry xle V6 2017. This car has very sensitive steering and is unsafe to drive, especially on a highway. There is a 1-2 degrees of very loose, fluid, no-resistant movement space in the steering wheel. The lack of any resistance in the steering makes the driver not having control over the car. I have to keep correcting the steering for the car to stay in lane. Actually, a slightest pressure on the steering wheel will make the car to jump in that direction. This makes me feel very unsafe on the highway, it also requires a lot of concentration and it makes me tired, especially my hands. My car has electronic steering systems (eps). I went to Toyota dealer shop. They checked it with a computer and there were no eps faults. All came ok. Their help ended there. This however does not change the fact that the car is not safe to drive.
