Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Toyota 2007 Prius (us model) hid headlights are intermittent. This has been going on for years and replacement bulbs don't fix the issue. Lights may extinguish at any time with no warning creating a dangerous driving condition, particularly at night. Thousands of owners have complained about this issue, but no recall has been provided by Toyota.

My 2007 Prius headlights go out. At first it was the passenger side. Yesterday both went out. Believe me I know things break, but for the price they want for these bulbs, they should of used a different technology for there light bulbs. My 2001 Chevy truck has had the same bulbs since new. If the bulbs on the Prius do not last, they should make it clear before someone buys the vehicle. Keep in mind most people who buy the Prius are doing so to save costs. Well if I have to spend600 bucks to replace bulbs it negates the reason I bought the car in the first place.

Headlight(s) inadvertently turn off while driving. Either passenger or driver side headlight(s) turn off. The headlight(s) will turn back on when the on/off switch is switched off then switched on again. Having googled this issue, I was surprised that this is a chronic complaint and Toyota is aware of this issue but has not been forced to recall. Toyota needs to recall as consumers are being charged for repairs as well as costs for fix-it tickets.

I have a 2007 Prius with 51,000 miles. For at least the past month, the passenger side hid headlamp has been going on and off periodically. Sometimes it has stopped working while driving and then will turn on again when I turn the headlamps off and on. Recently both headlamps had been going off and on at random. This was a safety hazard. On 12/2, I took the car in to a Toyota dealer and was told both headlamps were burned out. At first they charged me over $500 and after I complained about this high charge, they reduced the bill to $289, noting I would only be charged for labor. In my opinion, the hid headlamps were defective, burned out prematurely, and the fact that the lights would go on and off at random posed a safety hazard.

2007 Prius with 62K. The driver's side hid light goes out after about 3-5 minutes. Turn lights off and on, it reappears for a few minutes, then goes out again. But it is yellower than the passenger side. Some times both hid lights goes out. Very scary!!!

2007 Toyota Prius with xenon hid headlights that flicker or go off without warning. Toyota is aware of problem and offers to sell replacement lamps at $150 each plus labor to install them. I have researched the problem with other Prius owners and find it is a chronic known problem with no permanent solution. Replacing the lights last a few months to a few years but problem occurs again and Toyota collects the profits from repairing their defective product again and again.

2007 Toyota Prius. Driver's side headlight goes off intermittently. First it becomes dim, then completely goes out. If I turn the light switch off and on it will go back on for a short time, but then goes off again. First noticed the problem driving on highway at night during a rain storm and had difficulty seeing.

Hid headlights work intermittently and randomly. When it first occurred, I replaced one lamp. It continued to work intermittently. Now both will work randomly. When one goes out, you can turn the headlight switch off and back on and both will work.

My headlights, taillights, and brake lights intermittently go out while driving. One night, I was driving and I tried to use my high beams and all of my lights went out at the same time. After reading posts on the internet, it seems that this is a common problem for Toyota's. I hope that something can be donae about this.

  • 32,000 miles
Hid head lamp light bulb failed, both right and left bulbs at same time, while driving at night with lights on high beam. Turning lights off and back on to low beams returned light, but left me with a fanatic second or two while braking, steering and changing light control. This occurred three times on this night, until I noted the connection between light failure with lights on high beam but not low beam. I don't drive the car at night or in rain and have taken it in to Toyota dealer, whose price for parts and labor was over $400. Currently, I have ordered the bulbs from secondary market and will have them installed by a non-dealer mechanic.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that the headlights on the passenger side would intermittently turn off while she was driving. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the light bulb needed to be replaced. The bulb was not replaced. The dealer advised her to only use the headlights when absolutely necessary. The contact called the manufacturer who reduced the cost of the light bulb and filed a complaint. The VIN was unavailable. The current mileage was approximately 45,000. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

I have a 2007 Toyota Prius. I love the car, but the headlights are a major problem. The driver side especially will all of a sudden just turn off. It will flicker and then just quit. When I turn the switch off and then on, the lights will come back on, but then a few moments later, it will go back out. This is a very dangerous issue because I drive often at night. After taking it to a dealer, and reading all of the posts about people having exactly the same problem, I am convinced it is a major issue that Toyota must address. There absolutely needs to be a recall to rectify this very dangerous problem. Thank you!

  • 30,000 miles
2007 Toyota Prius with hid headlights one headlight does not work most of the time, but not all of the time. It tends to work when having the dealer investigate, so they can't tell us why it isn't working or what it would take to fix it. This started before the warranty expired and has continued for another 40,000 miles. Recently the other one has started shutting off while driving leaving us with no headlights. They (one, occasionally both) usually come back on by turning the switch on and off, but I don't know that will always work so we could end up driving at night with no headlights.

  • 36,000 miles
2007 Toyota Prius, problem first occurred around 36,000 miles. Drivers' side hid headlight goes out without warning. If the lights are then turned off then back on, the headlight will turn on again and work for a random amount of time before failing again. Car was brought to a Toyota service shop, where they replaced the drivers' side headlight with a new hid light. This was expensive and did not fix the problem. That night, the same thing happened: Brand new drivers' side light went off without warning and only came back on after the lights were turned off and back on. The car is going back to service next week. This occurs very frequently and is a safety issue. Reported incident date represents today's date- problem is ongoing and has been occurring for about 15,000 miles.
