We purchased this vehicle with the issue preexisting. The issue is that the trunk won't open. We have to crawl through and open it from inside, which is difficult because the latch AND the cable are broken.

We first attempted to fix the plastic collar on the release cable, but the cable was seized, so replaced the cable. The latch we replaced at a wrecker, as the component apparently has SEVEN generations of this item, with variations in design. On this model, the latch is secured to the hood of the trunk with 2 bolts, but there are 2 small machined Philips head screws on either side of the plastic housing. The trunk cable is mounted on one side of this latch, directly over one of these screws, and when the lever inside the car is pulled up, this applies pressure to ONE SIDE of the plastic housing in the trunk, and the thin flange of this breaks off. it's happened twice now. Each latch has been $40, the cable $70, the failed repair $30, not including various plastic tabs, epoxies and glues that didn't work. Today, the latch is again not working, the flange has broken off a 3rd time.

Apparently there are SEVEN generations of this design. Whoever decided to eliminate keyed access to a third of the vehicle is a Moron. This should be repaired by Honda or Acura, it should not even be an issue! The key fob doesn't give access to the trunk, and it's supposedly considered a luxury version of a Civic. Do YOU think it's a luxury to be unable to use the trunk, or at 52 years old have to climb into the trunk from behind the seat to open it? Do YOU think it's acceptable to make components out of plastic when daily use would render them useless? Why isn't there a metal version of this component? Why isn't there a keyed LOCK on the trunk?!
