A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

My car issue started in July 2020 when going to a local appointment. When approaching a stop light, I noticed the car did a little shake then when I pressed on the gas, it began to 'putt' or 'sputter'. Then I noticed the engine light began to blink. I wasn't far from my appointment so I continued so I could be in a safe place, called a family member and told them of the issue. I left my appointment, go in the car and it was fine!

Was told it could be gas so I went to another gas station. On August 5th, same thing all over again. Sputtering and hesitation to go. This time I took it to the local Honda dealership that owns the Acura dealership where I purchased my car. They kept it over night, did the test and came back with nothing. Suggested I take it to the Acura dealership for more accurate testing and to identify the trouble code. Made the appointment took it to the Acura dealership, nothing. There was no code to identify the issue, they didn't know what the problem was and I was told to bring it back when it happened again. (Mined you, I purchased the vehicle 45 minutes from my home). So today, on my way to work the shaking occurred.

I immediately drove to the Honda dealership to show someone I wasn't crazy. I left the car running and explained my problem to the serviceman. He advised that he couldn't do anything, wondered why the dealership where I purchased the car couldn't find the issue but then suggested to take the car to another local dealership, explaining that it was under the Acura warranty. I drove to this dealership, left it running so the servicewoman could see, hear and document the issue. She saw, heard, drove it into the service center and confirmed what I've experienced the last few months. I left the vehicle with them only to get a call several hours later saying they could not identify the problem. The vehicle was cut off so once it was in for inspection, the issue was not happening and there was no code to identify the issue. The servicewoman said she explained what she experienced to the technician but there was not way to identify the problem.

She asked to keep my car to drive it and see if the problem will occur again but I was still left with the same outcome, 'bring it back in when it happens again'. Right now, I'm frustrated and deeply concerned about driving long distances without knowing the problem. This is the 3rd time this has happened. I don't know what to do next but would love any advice or suggestions from anyone that may have experienced sputtering and driving hesitation with the Acura RDX.

Service Bulletin 17-017 directly addresses this problem but the bulletin only references the years of 2013-2017 RDX. Acura service department also said this same issue is know for the newer models 2019-2020.

I'm not sure why the 2018 isn't included in the service bulletins. I bought the car as a certified pre-owned 8 months ago, only driven 8,000 miles and this isn't "covered" under warranty. Something doesn't seem to be connecting.
