CarComplaints.com Notes: Considering sales numbers and data that monitors complaints-per-make, there appears to be an unusually high number of issues with the 2012 Fiat 500. Perhaps that isn't surprising -- it is the first model year of the car, and those tend to have a higher incidence rate.

Of particular concern is the number of engine and powertrain complaints submitted to NHTSA.

Safety recall S34 was received in June 2016. Parts are still not available. Proposed repair only addresses the root cause but does not repair the clutch pressure plate diaphragm spring which is being "fatigued or fractured" by the clutch pedal over travel problem. For cars with significant mileage or age, such as ours, the proposed recall does not eliminate the potential failure as the clutch pressure plate has already been subject to significant over travel.

Manual transmission becomes inoperative without warning due to problem addressed in recall 16V302000. I am receiving absolutely no response from Fiat other then to say the parts to fix the problem are unavailable. I was told that in June and it is now mid-August with no further update from Fiat despite assurance that they would provide one. This recall if left to the indifferent attitude displayed by Chrysler- Fiat is going to cause a fatal accident. My vehicle became completely disabled with absolutely no warning but fortunately I had just started the car to leave and was not going 60 mph in heavy traffic. I was lucky.

Clutch started going bad in 500 sport so I took it to the dealer due to the recall S34. (clutch makes a whining noise and causes abnormal vibrations when trying to engage gears. Still makes whining sound when engaged with gear) fca made no effort to cover repairs or even look into exactly what was wrong with the clutch. All I was told was I needed a new clutch kit and throw out bearing. They said they couldn't do anything since there is no permanent remedy yet despite that my clutch is going bad now. I was offered no alternative vehicle or estimate on when parts would be available yet fca seemed fine with letting me drive it despite the recall stating that the bad parts could "result in the inability to disengage the clutch..." and that could "cause a crash without warning". the recall notices went out in June, it's not August, and the owner's forums are saying parts might not be available until September but I can't safely drive my car now.

Fiat 500 recall. Fiat recalled my vehicle in June of 2016 for a defect in the manual transmission that "could cause a crash." It is August of 2016 and Fiat has no date for when the parts will be available, nor are they willing to advise how long it might be. I find this unacceptable to be driving a car that could crash "without warning" yet no plan is in place to remedy the situation. Please investigate what is taking so long.
