CarComplaints.com Notes: Considering sales numbers and data that monitors complaints-per-make, there appears to be an unusually high number of issues with the 2012 Fiat 500. Perhaps that isn't surprising -- it is the first model year of the car, and those tend to have a higher incidence rate.

Of particular concern is the number of engine and powertrain complaints submitted to NHTSA.

In 2013 I purchased a silver 2012 Fiat 500 sport pre-owned and purchased an extended warranty. After about 9 months after purchasing the car, I had problems with the headlamps burning out and my mechanic said it was an electrical problem and the entire right head lamp needed to be replaced and would cost $350.00. Before I could save up the money to get it fixed, the car stalled in the parking lot of my neighborhood grocery store.

According to the mechanic, I had major engine problems. Lucky me, the warranty would cover the repairs. A week later the air conditioning went out. Lucky me again...the warranty paid for the repairs. However, since the warranty has expired, I still have had something major happen about every 3 months on clockwork. The starter failed and I had to have that replaced. Then the shift gear broke and I had to have that replaced. Headlamps and rear brake lights are always going out. I was told I have rear wheel suspension problems which have made my tires look wobbly.

The latest problem is a rear main seal leak. The sensor in the car never came on for this problem and I never knew I had the leak until after visiting a friend and returning to my parked car to see a humongous oil leak under my car. The leak was so bad that it has soaked all the hoses and I have to have them all replaced in addition to having the rear main seal replaced. I've never in my entire life had issues like this with a car. I'm so depressed because I don't make much money on my job and as soon as I think I'm getting ahead, the car breaks down!!! I'm in tears because I still have 2 1/2 more years of payments on the car. I've been unable to visit my family, unable to save money for the future, unable to live a productive life because I'm cursed with this car.

Chrysler should be ASHAMED to call this a CAR...IT IS A BIG ASS PIECE OF JUNK that could literally kill someone because of the constant problems many other people are experiencing also. When I purchased the car, all the reviews were positive. I guess since my purchase, thousands of fiat owners are coming forward with similar complaints. I wish I could sue the company. I have totally wasted my money on this car. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING PURCHASING A FIAT...RUN FOR YOU LIFE!!!!! Do not buy this car.
