We have had both rear door latches fail. The door ajar light remains on, and the interior lights will not turn off. We have had both replaced by the dealer, at a cost of approx. $500 for each.

Flex

  • 48,000 miles
Front driver door latch sensor defective. This results in the following issues: Door ajar warning light illuminates; interior lights remain on, even when driving; doors cannot be locked from inside the car if keys aren't in ignition (due to feature that is designed to prevent keys from being locked in the car); alarm goes off at random times; battery drains because interior lights stay on until battery-saver algorithm turns them off...although after many cycles, battery is drained down. This is a safety issue because: A) interior lights remaining on makes it difficult to see at night; personal safety risk since doors can't be locked; dead battery renders car inoperable.

Passenger door sensor is telling the instrument panel that the door is open when it is shut. It will not automatically lock or allow me to lock the door when car is in motion (it pops back up). When motor is turned off the interior lights stay on. For a long time indicating that the door is not shut. The frequency of this problem has worsened over the past few months. And now the seatbelt latch doesnt work properly

Door latches are failing on both driver and passenger side similar to an existing Ford edge recall. Doors do not lock while driving and rear doors can be opened from the inside while in motion.

My passenger door light comes on when the door closed. Causing my interior lights to stay on & keeps my doors from locking. This happens at different times at first it was when I first start the car now its coming on when driving down the road. Now we are questioning the safety of my passanger when I'm driving down the road. This is also a issue when we get out of the car since it causes my interior lights to stay on unnecessarily for a length of time.

Driver's door latch ajar sensor malfunctioning. Reads "door ajar" with door closed, have to repeatedly open and close door to get the sensor to read correctly, and it still doesn't work right. Anti-theft alarm will randomly engage because the sensor is telling it the door is opened after being locked.

The door ajar sensor comes on when you get in and close the door.while driving the shift to park warning sensor comes on when you stop or yield.this happens over and over while driving. It's sensing door ajar therefore leaves all done lights on.if you slam door really hard sometimes lights will go off but you have to sit and watch to make sure.at night it's impossible to drive.very unsafe.sometimes I have to disconnect battery in fear of it dying and then be left stranded.they said it's the door hinge and parts are not available for 20 more days, I can't imagine dealing with this for that long for sure I'm gonna need a new battery.

I bought a new 13 Ford Flex, that only my wife drives. A few months ago the door ajar warning kept going off when the door is closed. I just bought a $130 battery cause this drained the battery, I cant lock the car, and the alarm goes off all day. Ford says its a bad latch cost is $515.40!! for a door not ever used

Ford is having many issues with the door latches on the Ford Flex, Ford edge and Taurus. The faulty design doesn't relay to the computer that the door is actually closed when it is and tends to start a chain of events throughout the car. 1) at high speeds it will actually unlock all four doors. 2) it will also do it at every stop sign when the foot is removed from the brake pedal, which then allows the doors to be opened from the outside and inside so a child could actually open the door. 3) at all speeds including highway it will suddenly turn all interior lights on allowing the driver to be possibly blinded momentary until the speed sensor shuts the lights back off but then it flashes them again. 4) it will also not allow you to lock the doors at any time. 5) lights stay on thinking the door is ajar and with vehicle off will allow the battery to drop below safe operating levels before the batter save feature kicks in.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Flex. While operating the vehicle, the door ajar sensor light illuminated erroneously indicating that the doors were not secured. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that a module was faulty and needed to be replaced. No further information was available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 80,000.

Door ajar warning lights when door is securely closed. This is a know issue with several Ford service bulletins issued. There are definite safety concerns as the following also occurs: Dome light stays on while driving making it difficult to see interior lights stay on when leaving vehicle allowing easy viewing of interior and possible battery drainage all doors will not lock (unacceptable) this is a major safety concern the false warning keeps driver from knowing if there is in fact a true door ajar situation Ford refuses to fix this under warranty saying the door latch (which the door ajar switch is an integral part) is a "wear and tear" part and therefore not cover by warranty. This is an issue on many Ford vehicles including Flex, edge, Explorer and Taurus.

I was turning a corner and something popped and the car would not steer. The only thing that stopped the car was the curve, as I was making the turn, and that caused a lot of damage. Sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, il said they would not repair the damages caused by the lemon-Ford-Flex that was sold to me because the vehicle was 300 miles out of the warranty. Sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, il than said it would have to be reported to insurance. So I reported it to insurance and the repair shop, that was repairing the damages, said they found damage to the radiator (1,500 dollars worth of damages) which could not have been caused by the car hitting the curve. And that it looked like sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, il raised the car inappropriately and caused the radiator damage. The repair company said, since the original place where the Flex was towed to (sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, il) was located right behind them (across the alley), sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, il caused the damage. And of course, sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, il denied it and would not pay for the damages. Buyer beware - do not do business with sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, il. Buyer beware - do not buy a Ford and if you do, do not go to sutton Ford Lincoln in matteson, il.
