This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I was attempting to back out of my parking space at my work place parking lot and backed on to my spare tire. The spare tire cable broke due to corrosion. Luckily I was not on the highway going 70 mph and someone behind me run into it. I have owned Blazer and Jimmy's for the last 23 years and have never had this problem. Checking out this website I now know this is a recurring problem. I will tell everyone that I know who own these vehicles about this defect.
The consumer owned a 1997 GMC Jimmy. Heard a loud crashing noise while driving. When he looked in the rearview mirror he saw something bouncing in a field. Consumer pulled over and noticed the spare tire was gone. The cable that held the spare tire under the vehicle broke. This occurred last night, and he has not yet had the vehicle inspected by the dealership. Also occurred on consumer's son' vehicle, 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche.
