I notice my steering getting sticky when the outside temperature is above around 75 F. It resists when trying to steer from a straight line course and once in a turn it wants to stay in the turn rather than straightening out. Now I can hear a popping sound when I overcome the resistance and change direction. It is annoying and dangerous. When I took it to a Honda dealership in 2024 they said there were no recalls for steering issues. The said there was a recall for the ac and they fixed that. The steering seemed to get better after the ac fix but I think that it was because it was done in the fall and the temperature outside was decreasing. Can't believe Honda hasn't recalled this model. Don't think I will be buying Honda again.

I bought the used 2016 Honda Civic EX with 81.925 miles. After driving the car on the highway at hot day (95 degrees) and suddenly the car begins to drift ever so slightly one way or another. When I go to correct, the steering wheel resists. It doesn't freeze but it sort of resists. I have to correct to keep in lane, and I am forced to repeat the same process all over again. End result is I begin driving like drunk driver. I call some dealer about fix that they said may be the Rack & pinion assembly need to be replace. It cost over $3,500. I don't know how can I deal with this.

I notice it mostly when I'm on the highway but that is rare. It normally occurs after I've been driving at least after an hour(keyword). Suddenly the car begins to drift ever so slightly one way or another. When I go to correct, the steering wheel resists. It doesn't freeze -- nothing that extreme -- but it sort of "sticks" until I apply a bit more pressure, after which it suddenly releases, corrects, and acts completely normal. Moments later however, it drifts the opposite direction, and I am forced to repeat the same process all over again. End result is I begin drifting slightly back and forth down the highway repeatedly, all the while fighting with a steering wheel that doesn't seem to want to let go. It's maddening.

My 2016 Honda Civic LX steering sticks when driving for more than 30 minutes at speeds above 40 MPH. It seems that after the car warms up something expands in the rack and pinion causing the steering wheel to stick in place. It takes a good amount of force to unstick the wheel and then the car jerks in the opposite direction. This is very unsafe and so far Honda does not have a recall. Others have replaced their rack and pinion and the problem was resolved but for how long? Something is defective with the 2016 Honda Civic steering.
