This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
A few years ago my 2017 Honda HRV appeared to have what I thought was a glitch with the gas/millage gage. As time went on the glitch happened more frequently and the gage would either be blank or only fractions lit making it unusable. At times I was unable to tell how much gas I had and since I could also not track my miles I could not calculate. I have to drive for work and at times in remote and unsafe areas, having a reliable and fully functioning vehicle is very important. I also ran into in issue while having my oil changed causing a delay in service. Luckly after about 30min-1hr and some flickering the gage returns however I'm worried this will continue more and more frequently and eventually last longer all go out all together. When I was having some unrelated work on my car, I enquired about this issue believing it may be a fuse however I was told its a known issue the cluster panel and would run a minimum of $1,600. Because it was a known issue I assumed there would soon be a recall but that has not yet happened and soon the repair will be unavoidably necessary and I will be out of pocket for something that is known. I understand that not all issues become a recall but wanted to make sure that I reported it so that it could be taken into consideration along with any other reports you receive. Thank you for taking the time to look into this
Body control module this same part is already recalled in accords and other vehicles. The car will stop and cut off lights on the dash will flash there is clicking as the car tries to start on its own. It has been to multiple dealerships who stated it is already recalled on other models of Honda for causing the same issues. There are no warning lights it just randomly happens.
In cold weather lcd display of dash display malfunction, no odometer reading, fuel or maintanance reminders on 12/18/2023. Only lasted 10 minutes but was concerning. car is out of warranty 42,000 miles, lots reports of same thing on HRV forum, goes all the way back 8 years honda was aware of this problem, last inspection was in 2021. This happened without warning and means you dont known how much gas is in car, when to change oil and other maintanance items. Told this is a liability problem, hoping Honda will issue a recall fix, other wise will have to live with it. Only a dealer can resolve this problem due to odometer reading being reset other wise would fix it myself. I have not been back to the dealer yet.
The odometer is not working properly, screen continues to flicker and has been progressively getting worse. It seems like is this a common issues with Honda HRVs. It puts me at risk for running out of gas at any point and living in the country doesn't make me feel safe. I've spoken with several HRV owners and each of them have this issue at different millage. The flashing can become very distracting while driving....
Dashboard where GAS/MILEAGE/TIME does not appear especially when it's cold. We cannot know how much gas we have and we will not be able to track our mileage to figure if we need gas. No messages or other symptoms appeared prior.
Dashboard information gauge intermittently works. Sometimes information (i.e. fuel gauge, mileage, etc.) is completely blank. Other times it's partially displayed. Other times it is scrambled.
On the highway and car completely came to a decreased speed of 60 from 75. Heavily revving. RPM jumped continuously. From 60 to 20mph for a hood 15min constantly pulling over with hazards to let energy build while engine cooled. Leak huge leak under car out of no where 95000 +
When the weather got colder, the third dash panel started going out (fuel gauge, odometer, etc.). when I turn the car on in the morning, the dash panel is black. Occasionally, as I drive, it flickers all the numbers. Sometimes, in the afternoon when I leave work, it comes on just fine. Other times, I have the same issue driving home where the dash panel is black or flickering. So at least 50% of the time while driving I cannot tell how much gas is in my car. It does not appear to be affected by speed, turns, bumps, or changes in the road. Temperature is really the only factor I can seem to attribute.
Key fob works on keyless entry but inconsistently does not allow starting when brake depressed and start button pressed. Sometimes the key warning light is lit, but sometimes no warning light is displayed. Sometimes the car is hesitant to turn off as well. Key fob battery battery was replaced but continued to experience same inconsistencies. Car was always in park at the point of starting or stopping. Taken to dealership - replaced 35881-T4N - 703 start switch. I note in forums the issue is on Accord, hrv, CRV.
Service ticket created 4/25/2020: Ignition - start / stop switch: B12C5 start/stop switch internal failure. My 2017 Honda hrv fails to start or stop when pressing the ignition button once. May take several presses, gradually getting worse to the point where it may not work at all. The Honda service department told me a previous customer could not get her vehicle to even stop. Therefore this is not an isolated case, and checking online I found it affects other Honda vehicles of other model years as well. The Honda service department wants to charge me $360.44 since I am just out of warranty. And they are unable to give me an exact date for when the part will arrive as it is on back order nationwide, which also shows this is not an isolated incident.
2017 Honda Hr-V door & hatchback lock and unlock systems are not working. Currently the passenger backseat door does not lock or unlock when you press the button in the vehicle or on the key fob. The hatchback is permanently locked and will not release to open it.
I was driving my 2017 Honda hrv when all the sudden the power to the car shut off and the car was in the street without power, I was able to move to the side of the street.the battery light came on followed by the engine light and the car completely died
Keyless door entry system fails to recognize commands from key fob in hot temperatures, thus potentially locking driver out of the vehicle if valet key in not available. Condition: Night time, car stationary in driveway, engine off, doors locked
I was driving at ~25 mph and stopped at a stop sign, then suddenly the car just shut off and I had to restart it a couple of times. Another time, I was pulling out of a parking lot at 5 mph and then the car suddenly stopped and shut off. Online research shows that this occurred to other Hr-V owners as well and had their throttle body replaced. Honda is refusing to replace my throttle body.
1, front windshield wiper suddenly stops working while driving in the rain.this thing happening since last two months 2, rear, right hand side suspension makes noise while driving, seams like something is loose and making pounding noise. This thing happening since last three months. 3, rain water leaks in from driver side where the gas and front hood latches are. For this I have already bring to dealer twice, still the problem persist.
The fuses for the cigarette lighter, which I commonly use to charge my cell phone goes bad a week after it's fixed at the dealership. Then when I start to use the usb port to charge my cell phone, that fuse malfunctions as well. The Honda tech who worked on my car the first time told me that this is a common problem. If the vehicles are in relatively new to brand new condition why are customers having to pay to fix these fuses every few weeks? the othe is is that this Honda model has so many fuse boxes, some which are hard to access. For this problem, I have to bring it in to the dealership, which they in turn charge me to fix this problem.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Hr-V. after the vehicle was serviced, the contact stated that the heating and cooling unit and electrical system malfunctioned. An independent mechanic also stated that fuel was mixing with the engine oil. The message "front collision" appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to valley Honda (4173 ogden ave, Aurora, il 60504, (630) 851-5700) and received a software update, but was not fully repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 27,815.
