This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The manual transmission in the 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe is very problematic. Very often the gear selection is rejected not allowing the operator to up shift or downshift. Second gear and fifth gear are the worse. Grinding often occurs when shifting into 2nd gear or 5th gear. I was merging into traffic on interstate 495 in Massachusetts when my car would not shift into 5th gear. The transmission simply started to grind. When merging into traffic at 50-60mph an operator needs to shift from 4th to 5th and I could not. I had to quickly downshift into 4th gear to try and keep accelerating. Any shifting into 5th gear after approximately 3,400 rpms resistance and often grinding will occur. This can very easily cause an accident, expecting to be able to shift into the next higher gear and not being able to do so. I have taken my car to a Hyundai dealer and "they could not replicate the problem". I took the service tech for a ride and the car ground into 5th, and I was then told "this is normal operation of the transmission". Hyundai does not want to remedy this problem, and eventually many Genesis coupe owners with manual transmissions will be using lemon law protection to have their cars fixed.
Vehicle: 2009-current Hyundai Genesis coupe 2.0T/3.8 vehicles equipped with manual transmissions. Vehicle build date: Feb 2009 start of incident: May 2009 issue:manual transmission constantly fails causing often unsafe situations for drivers and passengers. Failures include transmission not engage requested gear, failing to disengage gear, grinding while engaging gear, gears stop working completely, clutch fails to disengage or engage (sometimes stalling vehicle). Personally currently on 3rd transmission and 2nd flywheel which has also recently failed. Hyundai has so far been willing to replace transmission and related parts however no "fix" currently exists. Employees have been blaming drivers for causing problems hyundaieven though on multiple occasions driver proven to not be cause.
