I30 SX 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 27,000 miles

According to Hyundai Dealership themselves, there is a fault in the transmission valve body.

The vehicle at the point of purchase had only performed a total of 20,490km with a history of regular services and no collisions nor claims related to the vehicle. The Hyundai i30 vehicle has since done an additional 23,487 km with regular servicing, therefore totalling 43,983km driven. Since early 2021, at approximately 38,000 km, the vehicle has been experiencing infrequent minor sticking of the gears.

This at first, appeared to be infrequent and was attributed to lack of frequency of use due to state-wide lockdowns.

The issue has since become worse booked at Hyundai Dealership for two recalls, where I requested an additional inspection of the transmission. The fault was identified stating that there is an internal malfunction in the valve body. Since the service one month ago, the back windows have now also malfunctioned and a third recall has been received and booked for the vehicle.

The estimated cost of transmission replacement has been quoted at $5,250. This is half of the cost of the vehicle at secondhand purchase, 3 years prior to the current date.

While this vehicle is no longer under warranty, there have been many complaints of the 2008 to 2011 models having major issues with transmission valve bodies on primarily i30ownersclub.com. Until looking on there, I had been led to believe that the Hyundai i30 was a reputable vehicle with minimal issues, as websites such as this have stated.

Unfortunately, I have since learned that this is far from the truth. I am currently in the process of gathering evidence and requesting a repair given that there have been numerous reported issues and there is evidence of dealerships admitting that it is a "known issue", yet Hyundai have not taken any action.

I will likely never buy a Hyundai again after the recent issues and reading about others' experiences.
