There was a flashing yellow engine light, the engine started making noise like it was a diesel and the noise got worse and worse. We took it to the dealership. They said replacement would be covered under an extended warranty. However, they keep asking for more and more "maintenance" records. We have synthetic oil, but the dealership is saying that we should have had an oil change before 8,000 miles and they told me today that Hyundai may come back and tell him to take apart the engine to see how much sludge has built up.
Not to mention that this is a known problem with 2019 Kona engines and the maintenance assistant told us yesterday that they already had 8 other cars in the shop for the same thing. The car only has 42,000 miles on it!
Update from Jan 29, 2023: Hyundai is replacing the engine!
