paint peeling paint peeling

The paint on my 2017 Pearl White Santa Fe Sport is bubbling and peeling off in random chunks down to the grey primer on the hood of my car. I contacted the dealer and they said the paint was only guaranteed for 3 years.

When I bought the car, I paid extra for a coating that was supposed to protect the car from acid rain. I am afraid to wash it for fear it will cause more paint to peel off. I got an estimate from a body shop and it would cost me nearly $1,000 to repaint just the hood of the car. This is unacceptable! This is my third Hyundai and have not had any paint issues with my other cars.

paint peeling

I cannot believe that the paint on this car just starts peeling off in chunks. I bought the vehicle new and it was garaged for the first 3 years. How can Hyundai not be responsible? I have been a fan of Hyundai, but not anymore.

Santa Fe Sport Limited 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

I have a 2020 Santa Fe with slightly over 45 k miles & garaged...

I just noticed that the front, driver's side wheel is peeling in several spots. It kinda looks like plastic film that you would see when you get a new appliance; I've never seen that before with other vehicles and the other 3 wheels are fine.

Anyone else ever see something similar? Any idea if that issue would be covered by the warranty?

  • 21,000 miles

Today when I got home from work, I noticed a patch about 4x6 inches, oval shaped, of missing paint on the roof of my car starting where the windshield meets the roof. I could easily see the paint made a clean separation from the metal/primer. Never seen such a thing on a 2 year old car with only 21,000 miles. Checked the internet and wow, the number of complaints blew me away, including a 2017 class action lawsuit that got dismissed. I'll be at the dealer first thing Saturday morning.
