A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

BOUGHT May 1, 2017 with 32K odometer. For the first 10 K I averaged 38 MPG. Since that time I have averaged 26 to 28 MPG. I check every tank for AVERAGE MPG. I use top fuel, maintain good tire rubber. I am age 72. Dealer says he has not heard of this problem. I have asked dealership to help me by contacting technical support. They show no signs of interest in my problem.

Sonata Hybrid Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 47,000 miles

Purchased car used with 32 K. Drove next 10k averaging 38 MPG per tank and average 530 miles per tank. Next 7k I average 29 MPG per tank and go 450 miles per tank. I have talked with 3 dealerships and none has a clue. My driving habits have not changed. I use exclusively top gas 89 octane. Put in qt of cleaner every other tank.

poor mileage due to hybrid power control unit failure

For about 2 years I've noticed my car has been getting significantly worse mileage than it should. The dealer gave me multiple excuses such as "winter blend fuel" or "maybe it's just your driving habits."

I told them that I observed the EV mode not engaging as often as it should, and that when it does engage, it doesn't stay on very long.

Finally, after about 2 years, the computer in the car gave a code that there was a failure in the Hybrid Power Control Unit, which the dealer replaced (NOTE: It took them over 2 weeks to get one in).
