Hyundai produces cars with inferior and cheap components that put the owners in great danger! If you are unfortunate enough to own a Hyundai Veloster Turbo and have had an engine failure please do the following.

I am hopeful all of us suffering from this dangerous issue and lack of support from Hyundai are able to get the help we deserve. NO UPSTANDING COMPANY WOULD EVER TURN THEIR BACK ON SUCH AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THEIR PRODUCT THAT IS ALSO VERY DANGEROUS. It is just a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt and/or killed from this significant engine defect if it hasn't already happened. Hyundai, please stand behind the cars you sell and fix this for your customers without passing huge expenses on to us. None of us would have bought the Hyundai Veloster turbo if we knew the car had such a short life expectancy and was also a significant danger to our lives and those on the highways and roads near us. HYUNDAI PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING!!!!!! Here is my story.

We bought the Hyundai Veloster Turbo for my son as we wanted a reliable car for him to drive. It was a 2013 and had just 63,280 miles on it. Unfortunately, the car threw a rod through the block while he was traveling on a busy interstate resulting in heavy smoke and violent shaking of the car. He was almost in an accident as he tried to get the car safely to the side of the road. When he called to tell me about the incident he was very frightened and so was my young daughter and her friend who were in the car with him. This incident happened on March 17, 2019 when the car had just 64,208 miles on it. It was just 16 days and 928 miles after we bought the car from a used car lot. After doing some investigation I have found that this is a very common issue with this car. Many Veloster Turbo owners are saying to sell this car before the warranty is up due to connecting rods failing. I wish I knew this before I bought the car. I opened a case with Hyundai and they quickly denied any assistance saying, "it was not within the parameters that they can assist with". It sounded like she was reading from a script and had zero compassion. She then said the dealer, where the car still sits, was trying to get the warranty dept to cover it. Well guess what, the dealer said they needed to charge me $290.00 plus tax to open the valve cover and oil pan for the warranty dept to even consider it. I told them I did not want to shell out $290 plus tax if they were going to deny the claim for reasons unrelated to the engine condition. They said that it was a required step and likely a good sign, "otherwise they would have just denied it right away".

Unfortunately the warranty dept denied it as I was not the original owner and the mileage exceeded the warranty WHICH HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ENGINE CONDITION. Big surprise! The dealer said they did not see any issues with the engine either that would have led to the rod flying through the block. The dealer would not forgive the $290 plus tax charge as "it was not their fault". At this point I am very frustrated and I am certain the dealer knows based on my response time him. Where are we now? I just learned there is a safety campaign (19V204000) due to a software issue which "may cause premature ignition (pre-ignition) of the air/fuel mixture in the engine. Please open a case as if enough people do this it will be difficult for Hyundai to ignore this serious and dangerous issue. On 4/16/19, failure of a connecting rod blew a hole in the bottom of my Veloster's block. It occurred in a way strikingly similar to the other block damage complained of by other 2013 Veloster owners on this website. Because I am the second owner of the vehicle (having purchased it in 2013), even with only 42,000 miles, I am not covered by the drive train warranty. Still, Hyundai has offered to cover $9,000 of the $12,000 repair and is expecting me to pay 25% ($3,000). I have recently learned that on 3/29/19 Hyundai was forced to announce a recall, #182, due to software failure in this model which causes premature ignition of fuel leading to engine damage (tell me about it) and fires (I guess I was lucky not to experience this type of event). The fix for the recall is not yet available. So, when the new engine is in my car in a few weeks, if I drive it without the software fix, the engine damage cycle (engine hiccups and loss of acceleration) will start all over again. So, I get to pay $3,000 to repair a vehicle that I cannot drive. There is no word from Hyundai on when the #182 recall fix will be available. NOT HAPPY ABOUT PAYING $3,000 AND REALLY NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION CAUSED BY UNAVAILABILITY OF RECALL #182 FIX!!!!!

Last month Hyundai rejected the replacement engine on my 2013 Veloster turbo, when the engine had a connecting rod failure (it's sticking out the engine block). I was driving 65 mph, came to a stop light and the engine died. When I tried restarting it nothing happened. Hyundai towed it to the dealership that I purchased it from and had been doing the services on it (Weisner Hyundai Conroe Texas). I asked them to pull the oil pan and determine the cause for the failure. They were no hep at all. I even spoke with the GM and gave a letter to John Weisner the owner, to assist me. After requesting to meet with the Hyundai rep - he would not meet with me - just said it was not covered by warranty. I requested the reason for denied in writing and finally I received a letter from Hyundai Corp. It said the injection system was tampered with. What do I do now???
