I parked 2000 S-type Jaguar on hill and due to faulty shifter, the gear shift became jammed in park. I called Jaguar assistance & was told I should have pulled up the handbrake before I placed my car in park. I asked if this was in the owner's manual & was told no. They also said I could have gotten someone to push the car from the back & it would have popped into gear. By this time I am appalled to find that the customer must go through all of this agony to get a luxury car into gear! obviously, they have thoroughly researched methods to correct this problem after it occurs. This lead me to question if a recall had ever been done to correct this defect that is prevalent in 2000 S-types or if a letter has been sent to the customers explaining there are special procedures that one must follow to prevent your jag from being stuck in park on a hill. I was never notified or informed that I must pull up the handbrake before I place the car in park. It is not fair to place the burden of fixing this problem upon the customer. Whether I parked on a hill or on a flat level, my car should go into gear with no problem. Before I could give the make & model of my car they asked if it was a 2000 S-type & I said yes. Jaguar roadside assistance & the customer relations department stated that they get these calls frequently regarding 2000 S-types becoming jammed into gear. I asked if a recall had been done & they said no. I had my car towed to Jaguar & they called to notify that it would cost me, the customer $661 to repair my car. I mailed a letter to Jaguar customer relations stating it was no fault of mine that the car became jammed into park & was informed that since my car is no longer under warranty, Jaguar will not pay for the repairs. A warranty is irrelevant when this is a prevalent problem in this model. I have done research & spoke other Jaguar services here & was told the shifters are faulty in these models and a recall should have been done.
