Over the last couple months I have had my "check engine light" come on and the code was identifying a catalytic converter. I replaced the converter and the sensors along with replacing exhaust gaskets and the light still stayed on so I replaced the catalytic converter again thinking it was a bad converter. The engine light stayed on so I took my jeep to the dealership and they "reflashed" the catalytic converter with a software update around $80 bucks and that appeared to fix the problem. I thought everything was great then a week later the "check engine light" came on again and this time with a vengeance because it started flashing then my jeep cut off. I got it to restart long enough to take it back to the dealership. They kept my car 3 days and called me up to tell me that "cylinders 2/4/6/8 misfiring. coolant getting into cylinder head coming out exhaust est one side cylinder head parts and labor would be 3,255.00 Let me first say that I take care of my jeep. I get regular oil changes, fluids, etc and I treat it like it's my baby so this really shocked me. It costed me over $100 to diagnose this problem and with only 107,640 the dealership told me I should just trade it in. I took it to another mechanic and they took the engine apart and found out not one but both cylinders are cracked and the cylinders cost around 1,800 a piece! They told me it would be cheaper to put in a used engine so that's where I am at now and this is costing me $3,500 for an engine with 60,000 miles on it.

Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,000 miles

When car was three years old and about 46000 miles, engine light came on. Took to jeep dealer, they tested and said cylinder misfire and to use high grade gas. Started using only high test gas, but about three months later, engine light came back on and garage didn't know what the problem was. For the next two years and about $2.000.00 later, problem still wasn't solved. Had to trade the car in on another car (NOT A JEEP) for pennies on the dollar. Factory problem that Jeep will never admit to. Will never buy a Jeep again.
