Our car had about 85,000 miles, but since we are second owners, not under warranty. We had the engine rebuilt and my husband had to take an entire weekend to get it back into the car. Large unexpected cost and time drain.

Rondo LX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150,000 miles

After getting oil, flex pipe, oil sender and other preventive maintance done at the dealer, I drove the car to Indiana and got as far as central Ill and heard a knocking sound from the engine and later a loud BOOM!!!

opened hood to find oil spread everywhere and a 2 in hole in the side of the engine. I cannot find a 4 cly engine under 2400.00 with low millage. 6 cly are everywhere!!! Ended up having the engine rebuilt for 4500.00

Rondo 4.2L

Car was towed to Middletown Kia, they told me Kia wanted my maintenance records and would decide if it was under Warranty. They then told me it would cost $500 to pull the engine which they were doing before they found out if Kia was going to cover it. About 10 days after they received my info I was notified it was going to be covered but it was still going to cost me $550 because they decided to change some other parts also. I have a 100,000 mile 10 yr engine warranty so the only cost should be fluids. It's now over a month later and I still don't have my car they called on the 15th of April to tell me there were no Rondo engines in stock anywhere and it could take them up to a month or more to get an engine. In the meantime Kia does not have loaner cars. I live in the mountains with no bus service or mass transport of any kind and I work, so I either have to walk 6 miles or try to find someone headed my was at 6:00 in the morning to catch a ride with. I have never heard of it taking 2+ months to change an engine. When we were teenagers we used to do it in a day and it usually took 2-3 days to get a long block and 1-2 to get a short block. What kind of customer service is it when you have to wait 2-3 months to get a warranty repair done.

Rondo LX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 124,000 miles

So, we've had our Kia Rondo for 3 months. We bought it with 121,000 on it. We thought we were getting a decent car. Passed our mechanics inspection hands down. Car was in super condition.

So after having said vehicle for 1,000 miles we get the oil changed. We put 4000 more mile on it, still not due for next oil change @ 5,000 miles and as we were driving out of town for our trip the engine starts making a nasty knocking sound. Yep, you guessed it...blown motor with no oil in it. Now, there aren't any leaks. It doesn't smoke or anything. Car's out of warranty.

Just to keep a heads up on your own vehicle, check your oil weekly. I usually check it every other week with a s much traveling that I do for work.

One important note, the check engine light and oil light don't come on til the engine actually blew.

It is costing us $2700.00 to have this engine replaced. : (
